I reckon you should have the option to leave a comment with your vote. Others' comments on your posts could be accessed through your profile, as it was with karma.

It just seems to me like that up/downvote thing is a bit too simplistic and possibly ambiguous. An up/downvote may be directed at or emphasise a portion of the post, rather than the whole post - something which could be clarified with comments. Reasons for upping/downing could be given too, without disrupting the flow of a thread.

People who have voted the most posts (ie. every time a user clicks an arrow and doesn't un-click it). LOL, I've voted so much (as m@tty pointed out to me)!

(But then again, I did go through all the resources threads of my subjects and +1 each post that I have found useful... eg. in this thread. Is that allowed?)

Not allowed /banhammer

But dude that is so weird, I thought i was heavy on the + - button, but 360 is ridic (though I was doing some glitch testing when it was released, which is the reason for about 40 of them :P)

I'm not really sure how this fits into everything, but so far I've been trying to counter abuse of the negative system (ie; whoever keeps down-voting all pi's posts) by up-voting them just to bring them back to zero. If enough people are conscious of system abuse and are willing to work against it, I'm sure most trolling could be removed without having to make drastic changes to the forum again.

I've been doing this too... at this point I wish to coin the term "counter-negging".

I note how you can now see +1s and -1s now; have been handing out less -1s now =.= I'm claiming it's a bad thing :X

Question!

If you post, and it receives a lot of negative votes, if said post is deleted do you still lose the respect?
2011 - English, English Language, Philosophy, Indonesian SL, Outdoor and Environmental Studies.

“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely -- at least, not all the time -- but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”

I'd like to know this too, actually.

Maybe. We'll see how it goes. There have been too many people complaining about receiving negative scores; Now, unless you fear some sort of Internet backlash, you should only be changing it for legitimate reasons. Besides, if you're changing it for legitimate reasons, I'm sure you'll have others who do so too. And this makes it a little more interesting.

It seems to be a double edged sword this one.
I think the best option is to sit it out for a few weeks and if something arises such as this system being abused than something should be done.

Edit: Spelling.

Respect system is strikingly similar to the old karma system, now that we can see the last 5 people who have liked or disliked a post. Both systems are not anonymous and both systems evolve around around the +ing or -ing of specific posts. The only difference? That with karma, you could state a reason for your move, which was the good thing about karma.

If anything though, I reckon the respect system is/was better off as it was prior to this new addition. Just saying.

^

A poll was created and it was quite distinct that a change had to be made and this [arrow thingo] is it.

I reckon another poll should be created and hopefully the majority votes to scrap the whole darn thing.

And then what happens to poor posts? If its mods just straight out deleting them instead of being judged poor by their peers, we raise a whole other issue. If its leaving theme there then we leave ourselves susceptible to more more more poor posts.
