SAC 4!

We found out what sac 4 is going to be about -  we have to make a poster in class, focusing on a specific disease and 'how the immune system responds to its invasion'.
It can be either an autoimmune disease, an allergy, an immunodeficiency disease or and Infectious disease.
Do you guys have any suggestions? I want to do an interesting one but with lost of info on it :D
or maybe e a list of ideal diseases for this sac?  :)

Schools are not very inventive with their SACs, we had the same one. I had mine on malaria, if that in anyway helps / gives you an idea. One good thing about this is that WEHI provides some nice videos on it, although I'm not really a big fan of parasites so it wasn't the most enjoyable project :)

Yeah, if you do a virus don't do HIV because it'll be an extremely popular choice. Influenza as well.

Lupus (SLE) is a really good one but I'm not sure if you cover all the relevant stuff in unit 3.

Tuberculosis is a favourite of mine and it's also a fairly clear immune response. (so is Malaria)

we had our sac 4 on monday..and it basically a tssm paper with questions asking about process of allergies, shapes of antibodies,  injections of snake venom to a horse and then its process. also why do viruses in vaccines don't cause disease..remember that as the last question on the sac

Viruses don't cause disease because the virus particles used in vaccines consist of dead or attenuated cells of a micro-organism, or only a part or product of a micro-organism, therefore their infectious properties are disabled. However the antigen is still present to the antibodies are stimulated and an immune response is induceddddd. We did the SAC the other day, and this question came up. Good luck :)

because they are made so that they have decreased virulence or cannot replicate
so you have vaccines that are attenuated or the virus is inactivated or killed... or you can get vaccines that are made from the proteins of the virus
