^ yes. the rest of my exams have been the epitome of mediocrity. yay for the burnouts.

anyway, just wanted to clear something up

one duplicated molecule of DNA winds into one duplicated chromosome. this chromosome is made of genetically identical sister chromatids held together by a centromere. right? my text book says that individual chromatids are chromosomes but the bound sister chromatids is known as a duplicated chromosome. i thought the sister chromatids made up the chromosome?? what what what ?

normally a chromosome only has one chromatid. Following replication, (S phase and beyond) each chromosome contains two identical/non-identical (depending on phase and mei/mitosis - think crossing over) sister chromatids...

is this right: one chromatid = one DNA molecule

Yeah, one in each, as the chromatids form after replication.

what is the correct definition for a genome. some say that its the total amount of genetic material/DNA in a cell and others say that it is the no. of genes in a cell. Which is it? Cause i know that not all DNA are genes.

Total amount of genetic information in a cell (and is not necessarily just DNA and chromosomes)

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so its not just genes? then how come NOB says its jst genes.
Nxt question: What does the non-coding segments include.... does it include spacer DNA and promoter and stop regions as well as introns?

Is DNA synthesized in the 5'to 3' direction or the 3' to 5' direction? :P causes different sources are telling me different things

NOB is probably oversimplifying.
Non coding segments are basically anything that doesn't get translated into a functional protein product.
DNA is always synthesized 5' to 3', because the only place to add a new nucleotide is the 3' carbon of the ring (the 5' has the phosphate attached to it). The confusion almost always comes from the fact that a NEW DNA strand is always synthesized 5' to 3' but this means the COMPLEMENTARY strand is being read 3' to 5'

so wats spacer DNA. is it the same as/include introns?
and is genome a set no. for each organism or is it just a term to describe the total set of genetic material
