I guess they can do it because the school is selective, so many people who are likely to achieve 50s are taken in. Also, maybe there are good teachers who want the reputation to be good. Or something.

Well, they test all their applicants to ensure they only have academically-able students attending their school, thus average study scores are high lol. That's how they do it.

the subjects MHS clean-sweep are usually the less high-powered ones, where exam technique is most of the game

There is also evidence that there are greater value-add effects are present when smart cohorts are put together.

but i mean how must the class feel. they got 71 people in total over 40 and 13 50's, like i'd kill myself if i was apart of that class and got less than 40. such shame.

Why is it that amazing? A score >40 represents about the top 8% of the state, and the entrance exam into Melbourne High and Macrob are meant to take the top 3%.

From what I know MHS has an awesome culture which stems from putting people who may have owned easily at their own schools into a situation where other students are equal or better than them. Although I find it very interesting that MHS doesn't get that many 99.95s (normally 1 a year) but a huge number of 99.90s (10 last year).

I don't know about how good MHS is though.

I'm definitely generalising, but from the level of the students that I know who go to MHS, they're not particularly amazing. Like, I expect to get destroyed by them in subjects, but that doesn't happen. I consistantly beat them in my maths tute at least.
