i thought that monash didn't accept sideline entry (from another course/institution) into medicine.

They don't, the funny thing is, a friend in Biomed says some people they know are trying to transfer to med at the end of the year, not realising yet that it doesn't happen here

You can do that at a lot of interstate unis though - UWA, UNSW, UNCLE, JCU, UWS, UTAS, you could probably throw in a couple more acronyms for good measure.
I think Monash might even be in the minority for not accepting non-Year 12 leavers.

From what I've seen, most ppl do condsiderably worse in section 1 as compared to other sections!

Actually from what I've seen, most of the higher scoring people tend to do worst in section 2 =P I have a feeling this is because those who tend to be good at section 2 suck more at stuff like logic and reasoning and such which are in section 1 and 3, and vice versa for those who are good at section 1 and 3 (yes, massive generalisation; shh). Thing is, theres 2 sections with an emphasis on logic and reasoning, and only 1 on understanding people, so those who are good at logic and reasoning tend to get the advantage =T Like yeh, I got around 60 percentile for section 2 but ended up with 98 percentile overall anyhow. I had a friend who had 100 percentile but had around 70 percentile for section 2 as well. Just goes to show that pretty much EVERYONE at the top end of the scale didn't do too great on section 2 given that such low section 2 scores can still get that high =\

I agree actually, as a general trend people tend to be EITHER very strong in the logic sections OR in the emotional section. Weirdly, I don't fit into that at all though - my percentiles were almost exactly equal for each of the sections...

The emotion section doesn't require much logic? =/
Someone explain either way, I'm curious, I'd like to learn

emotion section? just watch the OC or gossip girl.
The people there are shallow and thus have no emotions.

Nah srsly, those who know me would have some understanding that my perception of emotions is based mainly on inferring from the dialog and missing all the communication that goes on with body language, tone of voice etc. And the UMAT is also missing body language and voice tone. Therefore you need logic only to work out emotions on UMAT? =/

or do I fail and my lack of skills is advantageous for umat testing :P on the questions I've seen I haven't gotten an emotion Qn wrong.

i thought the point of umat was to test for humanistic characteristics. Whats the point of it when a lot of people at the top end do average to above average at section 2, the part that should differentiate the really smart maths wizzs with no skills at understanding people from other smart people who can actually comprehend emotions.
I got like 95 percentile for section 2, 80 something for section 1 but 60+ for section 3. I dont really fit the generalisation =/

What do people expect the cut-off for Monash to be this year?

Also do all people who attain the cut-off score get invited for an interview? Becuase if Monash are strict about having 700 interviews it's unlikely that the scores will work out so that the person ranked 700th is the last person who scored at the cut-off.

Thanks.

word on the street is they are doing less interviews than normal this year - closer to 500 or so so that makes it even harder to get a monash interview.

i have a feeling they'll end up with a bunch of very passionate robots.
Well that's the first time I've heard that. I hope that it's just a rumour- because if it's true then that might just be the end of it.

Was that said at Monash open day or something, or is it more recent?

Thanks.
