I heard something about how they were reworking the marking scheme because '90% of the state didn't meet some of the criteria'. But yes, just RUMOURS so don't quote me on this. But I'm not too fussed; I remembered to put a headline :]

Hmm if it was an expository essay, we wouldn't lose marks for no headline or indication of form would we? They would realise it's expository.. right?

An expository essay in a newspaper would still have a heading. EVERYTHING has a heading in a newspaper; even an essay. Even when published in journals or released generally, essays will tend to have headings regardless. However, you wouldn't lose marks for not indicating your form as it's not a VCAA requirement to. And well, whether they would realise or not depends on how well you wrote it. If like some people, you slightly headed towards being a persuasive piece, then they might not.

i think every form would be expected to have a headline no one would be more advantaged in a particular criteria

A headline is pretty much a title, but since it's in a newspaper, they will usually be something witty or sensationalist and they should also be short.

Don't editors usually put the heading in? It says the piece would be 'published' in a newspaper.

shinjustx said that they might change around these little ambiguities

Although it seems to be a grey area, I think the whole idea about editors putting in titles is besides the point, and if what riadnicolas said is true, then it seems like VCAA feels the same way. If the rumour I heard is true, then perhaps VCAA rethought about it because it does seem quite unfair to me, especially since it's the first year.

I lol at VCAA being so ambiguous and gloriously unhelpful re: the new curriculum, to then have it come and bite them in the ass so ridiculously.

Well since its out of 10, I highly doubt you'd lose one whole mark for not putting a headline. That just seems too harsh,.

I think it depends where you're standing at current. You might drop from a 10 to 9 if you forget, but I doubt you'll drop from say a 7 to 6.
