Replaced all references to DALnet with VillageIRC

The FSN chat is now based at VillageIRC. The server to connect to is irc.villageirc.net (instead of irc.dal.net)

I have regrettably edited out portions of dialog discussing DALnet, and in retrospect I didn't need to do that, but it's not a big loss anyway. Sorry, and I hope you enjoy the new server.

I can't sign in on mIRC using the server irc.villageirc.net.

What was with the server change? Like Apple, I'm curious.

enwiabe (with the help of Daniel15) has gotten rid of FlashChat, and has integrated the CHAT button up top with IRC.

To eliminate the perceived disadvantages of IRC, enwiabe chose VillageIRC for its strange power structure:

Originally (DALnet)
Ops: @
Voice: +

Now (VillageIRC)
Admin: !
Ops: @
Half-ops: %
Voice: +

Moderators have been given half-ops, and the admins are administrators. Administrators are immune to any moderation, and half-ops are unable to distribute power like before, so enwiabe doesn't have to freak out the next time he joins a channel full of ops, because it won't be.

I'm just reporting, guys. :)

EDIT
To fix your connection problem, goto VillageIRC.net (the webpage), and click Servers. Instead of trying to connect to "irc.villagenet.net," try the specific prefixes they have (i.e: Loopy.VillageNet.net, ShadowRealm.VillageNET.net, and the other one)

You have to have your Identd server enabled on your IRC client, otherwise VillageIRC will not accept you. (For mIRC, it's in Tools -> Options -> Connect -> Identd -> Enable Identd Server)

...and about the power structure thing, there's still a way we can enjoy the times where we shared the communistic paradise of free-flowing privileges for everyone :)

In addition to what Coblin said, I know one of the IRCOps (server admins) on VillageIRC. Their network is a lot smaller (DALNet usually has around 40,000 users online, compared to less than 100 on VillageIRC), and common nicknames aren't taken (I own daniel for example, something that's not really possible on DALNet).

Quote
enwiabe chose VillageIRC because of it's strange power structure:
I chose VillageIRC (because I'm there often, and also because of the things I mentioned above), but most other IRC networks would have been fine. Most new IRC networks have the same power structure, DALNet is an older one and hence doesn't have any of these new features.

Try ShadowRealm.VillageIRC.net.

Remember, you have to have Identd server enabled. Read this post for instructions.
