BA22,

were you originally from a rural area though?
i am from east melbourne and apparently they give preference to those from a rural background...

if so this decreases my chances by how much.....

Yeh i'm from a rural area originally, as in i've lived there for over 10 consecutive years proir to graduating, before tha i lived overseas in england

So i assume that means you had an interview for the ERC scheme

This scheme is generally understood to favour rural students but half of the kids in the ERC with me are from melbourne so i assume they must be taking the best students available

Not over till it's over

Med schools play a funny game of musical chairs through all rounds of offers as interstate kids get offers at monash then don't take them to stay at home, so you are definently still a chance, your UMAT score is solid and your ENTER is far from terrible

good luck

also,
now i am thinking 2nd preferences... what are the chances of getting into melbourne med post grad if you do biomed, i know that no one has gone through yet and it makes it hard to tell, but if my chances were not good then i would probably just do physio or something.

need helps...

I also didn't get a "first round" interview. Does anyone know when the offers for second round interviews come out? Also, which universities offer them and when do the interviews take place? I am going overseas and am afraid that I might miss my interview/offer (if I get one)... :(

Yeah, it's going to be fairly intense competition to get those spots, i believe the competition will be far higher than that of the monash undergraduate course. Most students in biomed at the moment plan to undertake postgraduate medicine and then there are applicants from other faculties and other institutions too

I'm not really sure when second round interview offers are made, but it would make sense that there were given after results come out, and that probably means they are waiting for the UAI to be released on (thursday?) before looking at which applicants to make offers to

It's likely that the late interview round will be around the same time (probably after) the main round offers, which puts it at the end of january, if you are offered one monica, you might have to see what you can do about getting to NSW as there is no real way of getting an alternative interview time

Thanks for the advice. Do you think I could ask the uni to email the offer, instead of sending it by mail? Our mail is being held by the post office..

yeh, they say that, but you are disadvantaged

The whole process favours home state applicants as they are the only ones who will get offers in the main round. The best of the interstaters will fight it our for the remainding spots in the late or final round.
The email they send you when they offer you an interview says this:
"5. If the results of their interview, together with their academic and
UMAT results, exceed the cutoff that was required for entry into UNSW
Medicine in the main round of offers, they will be offered a place in
the UNSW Medicine course in the late round of offers."

So, apparently, you don't actually need to 'fight for a place in the late round'. As long as you do as well as the NSW'ers in the main round, you get an offer.

Yeh, everyone fights for place anyway, its just a turn of phrase

But as an interstate student you don't get a shot at all available spots, just the ones remaining after main round offers

Hahaha, yeh, easily one of the best on SNL
