The iPhone 3G.

Okay so here's my dilemma;

I want to buy an iphone when they are released on July 11.

It seems at this stage you can only buy one registered with either Optus or Vodaphone. I'm currently with Telstra and although I am happy to switch to Optus if I have to, I want to keep the same telstra number which I have had for the last five years?

Is it possible to transfer a Telstra number over to another network? (that is, Optus?)

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I believe it is possible to transfer numbers across networks.

I WAS GONNA MAKE A WWDC THREAD, IM ADDICTED TO IT uleahhhhh.

But, I know dcc will bash me :( :P

but for an indepth summary of the WWDC:

www.mactalk.com.au

Anyways, telstra is in the midst of testing the iPhone and rumour has it that telstra will sell the iPhone (however, the rumor dated back to 8-June so yeah).

I'm pretty sure with Optus you can keep your existing phone number and transfer to their network :) However, I must warn you that since the Australian network is quite new to the iPhone's advanced technologies (which consume aloot of bandwidth) so expect a little bit of bugginess, don't blame it on the iPhone.

Nah, it wasn't imported. We were overseas when he bought it, which happened to be in January.

I don't think the prices have been released yet -- they're keeping the wraps on it.

Actually, the prices as quoted by Steve Jobs in WWDC will be a maximum of $199US worldwide for the 8GB and $299 for the 16GB model.

Yeah it isn't... I was expecting it to be much higher tbh. I shouldn't get it though, as much as I want it  ::) Already have a Touch and need to save up for a new laptop :)

the prices are US and you have to consider what the carriers will charge also, so im guessing it will be more than $200AUD.
