I've heard of certain companies that just throw out the CVs of people whose degrees aren't from Group of Eight universities.

^ particularly VU. It has a bad reputation when you compare it to other uni's. Maybe cause of the low ENTER requirements?
(no offence intended)

None taken. :) Ultimately, I'm planning on only doing law at VU for one year, and transferring to Monash the next year, and possibly redoing my whole course again. (This beats trying to get an ENTER of 99.30 for Monash law first time around any day. :))

@ Prav: ohhh, there may be hope for people like me. :P

I don't know what it is, but for one thing... the content that VU offers for certain subjects aren't easy, just because the ENTER required is low, people think that their course will be easy, but it's not... I mean they do need to keep some sort of quality standard!

I actually agree. All courses are very similar in standard, irregardless if they're part of the Group of Eight or not. The lower ENTER score as opposed to other unis is simply because there is less demand for Law at VU; it does not mean that the educational standards of the uni are in any way less academic than say, that of Monash.

I don't think it's got anything to do with the ENTER though, they must be superior in some way and that's why more people are applying at Monash or whatever instead of VU.

deakin is well regarded for its commerce degrees and commercial law focus. i dont think theres any stigma attached to these courses....

you sure? damn -_- i was thinking of doing commerce/law there with an intention of doing commercial law..

i was just saying.... Employers would obviously choose UoM and Monash graduates over VU graduates.
VU is also ranked amongst the lowest in the state. I agree that the course content would be pretty similar however employers also tend to look at the uni's reputation as well when they are selecting their employees.

From what I've heard (so don't quote me on this) companies these days are looking past your academic history or whatever you want to call it. They are looking at experience as well. Trust me some employers don't want to spend money on training someone, when another graduate from another university has the experience :P

theres already an epic thread regarding commerce, the 'final' vote for which uni is better...

any one have a link to this thread? I cant' find it.

Im rly interested to know what people think. I always hear that Melbourne uni is definitely the place to do commerce, and is worth a lot more than a monash degree. :S
