Interesting, I think there were only a couple of scores below 48 for English in that list. Also, the number of people who did LOTEs in that list is quite large.

Yeah, the lowest scaled score for English I could see was 46 (Matthew Pierri). (Eddy Qiu got 45 raw for EngLang but that is scaled up by two). That English score really is vital to a good ENTER.

Also regarding your second point, taking 2007/2006 scores into account as well, there are only four top scorer students this year who seemingly did not have a LOTE in their aggregate (Bennett, Martin, Shallue, and myself =P), and two others who technically with the data available may not have needed one (Shafar, Yii [I think only if she got a H pass in a uni subject...I think it is more likely she did Latin etc, though]).

Yes. Also, I noticed that the LOTE's that were commonly attempted were French, German, Classical Greek and Latin (the former two are probably common anyway but the latter two...) and as far as I know those 4 have can go pretty high. So despite the aggregate for 99.95 being below that 210 barrier which means that people can get a 99.95 without needing a subject to scale above 50, scaling above 50 remains the common trait in many of the people that achieved 99.95 (I know you are an exception, unless the extra 0.5 from spesh took you over the line )

I'm not sure what justifies the scaling for Latin {(30)[47]} and Classical Greek {(30)[46]} though. The 'government policy' is in place to encourage the study of modern LOTEs, not outdated ones!

Yes I agree that specialist scaling is fair, it is really a much higher level than Methods and deserves to be recognized as such by scaling above 50 (I personally hope we go back to the 50--> 55 days next year). But for the ancient languages, I think it's just the difficulty of the languages that creates that scaling level.  I know a couple of people who tried to take Latin as an ENTER booster but just dropped out. People that score well in it either need to be born into a Latin or Classical-Greek speaking family (that would be interesting) or be prepared to put in a lot of hard work, and if they are able to put that hard work they probably carry that work ethic into other subjects. That's just my theory as to why people that get 30s in Latin are adjudged to need so much scaling.

   ^heh, I don't imagine there are many Latin speaking families, [though catholics who attend mass in Latin might have some advantage.] Scaling results from the difficulty of the competition, [although, that's indirectly affected by the difficulty of the subject], and you can imagine Latin attracting a cohort which is relatively difficult to compete against.
