omg yay finally! :DYeah, I've started studying for the umat. Infact, I've already done 12 practice exams!!! How many have you done????
I'm a bit nervous for subject selection next year. Have you started studying for the umat yet?

SO keeeeeeeeen! Enjoy these years before VCE, trust me.
Oi, cut the crap out of this thread, please :P. If there are more Year 8s out there that want a specific community, they're free to have it here. (Though I would recommend passions additional to high-school education).
Yeah, I've started studying for the umat. Infact, I've already done 12 practice exams!!! How many have you done????
I've also finished the syllabus for Chemistry, Methods, Specialist Maths, Further Maths, Biology, AND physics.
Hahah - not saying there's something wrong with it, just that when I was in year 8 I spent my spare time playing video games. :P If you guys want to learn more about academic things, power to ya'.I think I fooled you, I'm sorry
Kudos for learning more - but a lot of the study designs for those subjects will have well and truly changed by the time you get to VCE (the first four are set for change in 2016). If you really want to learn more about those specific subjects, seriously just learn more - don't focus on VCE curriculums, look to learning more about chem in general. Learn more about biological processes, not just because they're in VCE. Learn about the fiddly points of calculus - not because they're in the study designs, but because they're cool. (and so on and so forth)
I completely agree! I don't graduate till 2016, and the only reason I have an account on ATAR notes is because I'm currently completing VCE subjects - but honestly, chill out guys! I strongly recommend you don't start selecting VCE subjects just yet. At least, don't start looking in depth at them until you're coming to the end of year 9. Even that is pretty early.
Lol. From what I've seen of the UMAT it's a lot about understanding people. You can't learn to understand people from a textbook, that comes from real life experience. Fact.sorry, i don't understand, can you please rephrase?

Hahaha you're all so awesome!!! 3/4 in YEAR 9!!! THAT's incredible!
The kid who got a 50 in specialist o.O couldn't do that even if I'd had Year 13 and 14 to study hahaha
I feel like VCE is so rigidly restricted to Yr 11 and 12.
Ideally, the BEST VCE program would be to have 2 3/4 subjects in Year 10 (probably bottom two - content revision ones like biology/PE/health and human development etc.) then a language and an 'easy' maths in Year 11 (like French and further maths) then an English and a harder maths/chemistry in Year 12 (like Literature, Chemistry and Specialist/Methods)
If anyone's still paying attention to this thread at all, hi. :-\Dude. That's awesome your starting so early! Yeah, Jerry Mao. Slayer.
I'm a current Year 8 (Year 9 2015). I'm not going to a selective entry school, but I am doing Japanese 3/4 and Philosophy 1/2 next year, so I for one was glad this thread was made.
In all honesty the Year 12's replies were pretty funny. Keen I am. Scared, but keen. I'll show you all up when I only have one more 3/4 to study in Year 12 ::)
Nice to meet you any other ambitious/keen/crazyYear 8s.
Did any of you hear of the Year 8 this year who get 50 for Spesh? And I thought I was keen.
Dude. That's awesome your starting so early! Yeah, Jerry Mao. Slayer.

Curious, have any of you guys done any calculus yet? I've just started and it's pretty cool :)
Also, does anyone do tutoring?
You guys are so ambitious! ;)
Have you decided what you want to study at uni?
I remember back in Year 8 when all I cared about was getting 100% on every test. All I have to say is wow and your username should be Hamo100. 8)

Get on my level, 100% was my lowest score in year 8... Have a guess what was my highestk

2023...... Far out...... I thought 2016 was keen :"( I'm so wrong......
You're making me feel guilty for not studying from year 6. Ahahah
What are you guys doing for your holidays?Take a guess. :-X
Take a guess. :-XTravelling to visit family, watching a load of action movies, going through past VCE exams, getting ready to take a French exchange student. Lol :p
Travelling to visit family, going out with friends, watching god-forbidden amounts of K/J-drama. Getting ready to take in Japanese exchange student :)
You?

Dude...why?Because I want to be as prepared as possible for when VCE comes :p Seriously though, It is my dream to do half as well as you did :)
Apart from a difference in genre and a difference in race, sounds like we're pretty much the same. Though instead of exams I plan to just go through examiners notes and finish my 3/4 holiday homework (huzzah).Lol yeah. What subjects are you gonna do? It'd be good to have someone to study with :)

Haven't heard from you guys in a while, how's life/school?I'd have to agree. Seems like we're actually doing something this year.
I found that compared to year 8, year 9 is about ten times better so far!! :)
/butts in/ yeah, I found that the higher year level, the better school life.
I wish I did what you guys are doing!!
Additionally, congrats on you guys for spreading your VCE subjects across your high school academic years; instead of just doing them in year 11 and 12.Thanks. I was honestly surprised that the school let me do VCE in Year 8. Like, for one the school doesn't have very high academic standards; and it doesn't usually stretch the rules for kids like me. The thing I actually hope will come out of this (other than a high ATAR - fingers crossed) is more younger students doing VCE. There are complications surrounding organization, work load and maturity and everything, but if some junior high-school kid is really good at something, why not let them take it all the way? I really hope this mentality comes into effect in Victorian education. Like even now they're introducing not science 'extension', but 'acceleration' -- essentially doing Year 10 chemistry in Year 9 and 1/2 in Year 10 (what I'll be doing)... that's what I hope to see.
Agreed! I was bored sick of school in year 9 in an utterly un-academic school, with teachers who thought it was our 'rest' year and spent the whole class chatting on other topics... everyone says it gets worse, but it only gets better.I feel you. Especially the 'rest' year. There's a whole lot of personal development related work and events set up for us to do, and honestly the actual schoolwork has only slightly increased in difficulty. Schools really need to push it where they can. I hope it gets better. Looking forward to it.
And I wasn't allowed to do a 3/4 subject even in year 11... :'( you are definitely lucky, keep it up!
Good luck :D but remember to keep it broad - extracurricular and lots of normal 9/10 subjects too! Because you may find that you're bored sick of VCE by year 12 and wish you'd got all you could out of lower high school life, not just academics.
Hi all :)
How are you guys going with your 3/4 subjects select entry schools and life in general?
I'm liking year nine much much more then year eight; more choice over the subjects you do, seemingly harder work (yes, of course it should be; we're a year level higher - but it seems there's more scope available to put in extra effort now)
What texts are you guys reading for English?
Yes, year nine seems to be much more enjoyable for me too. This semester for English we are reading Life as we knew it by Susan Beth Pfeffer, and next semester we are reading Shadow by Michael Morpurgo. What texts are you reading for English this year? The Happiest Refugee by Anh Do, Animal Farm and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.
The Happiest Refugee by Anh Do, Animal Farm and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.
Oh, how I love you MathFights.
Anyone else want to do med in uni?Hunger Games is alright :)
I'd love to become a psychiatrist in the future! It's my dream career. c:
And we're reading Tomorrow When The War Began and The Hunger Games this year... XD
How are you all finding Year 11 thus far? Are you doing 3/4s? :)
Its definitely a huge jump from year 10. :'( I actually haven't had a day so far where I have had no homework hahah. I am happy with all my subjects especially physics!! The 3/4s I'm doing aren't bad, its just year 11 spesh that's killing me right now. Biology is super interesting (unlike last year) atm and i'm loving it buts its a lot of work :/ :-[
I'm doing 2 3&4 and i agree that the workload is a huge jump between year 10. So far i'm surviving but it getting difficult.
Yeah? What sort of homework do you have?
That's great about your subject choices. :) What are you studying?
Yeah, Year 10 practically into Year 12 (for those two subjects) can be an interesting transition, but absolutely worth it in the long-run. It's a fantastic experience in preparation for next year. Which 3/4s are you studying? :)
P.S. And in response to both of you, don't worry: ATAR Notes has your back. ;D
How are you all finding Year 11 thus far? Are you doing 3/4s? :)I totally forgot this thread existed. Thanks for reviving it!
I'm doing health and human development and further math
I totally forgot this thread existed. Thanks for reviving it!
And congrats on admin you deserve it!!
Year 11 is pretty great. Aside from the academics, I feel quite sad that it's the second last year of school. Everything seems so fleeting and i just want to have fun while I'm still here in my hometown with my childhood friends.
No 3/4s for me this year. The only ATAR-contributing subject I'm doing is UMEP.
Yeah? What sort of homework do you have?

Nice choices! :D Are they, like, conventional 3/4s to do in Year 11 at your school, or were you just interested in those subjects?
Lol, i'm doing physics, chem, bio 3/4, methods, spesh, english and maybe a language through vsl...unsure about it now. I have till our first SAC to decide.
I was interested in health and further was the best option as it was another 3&4 I could do in year 11
Nice choices! :D Are they, like, conventional 3/4s to do in Year 11 at your school, or were you just interested in those subjects?
No problem! I thought it was about time this thread had some activity again, haha. And thanks very much! ;D
What do you mean by fleeting, exactly? Like, coming to an end very quickly?
And really cool! Do you think you've learnt a lot from doing 3/4s previously? (Am I reading correctly? Did you do a 3/4 in Year 9?) :)
A quick Google search tells me that VSL is the Victorain School of Languages, but I've not heard of it before. How does that work, exactly? Which language? :)
Victorain;)
Yeah, nice! How good is HHD? ;D What's the plan for next year?
How are you all finding Year 11 thus far? Are you doing 3/4s? :)Year 11 is actually a huge step from last year, but it's quite manageable (so far). This year, I am doing 3/4 Software Development. For my other subjects, I love Spesh, Physics, Chem and Eng Lang so far, but right now, I don't find Methods to be particularly interesting right now (it's basically revising Year 10 work and a little bit extra added). Otherwise, I'm currently enjoying Year 11! :)
This year, I am doing 3/4 Software DevelopmentHow are you finding softdev? Let us know if you have any q's via our section: https://atarnotes.com/forum/index.php?board=46.0 :)
I'm doingWhat part of science was hard? Hope you really enjoy this year and next in those subjects. Can't say I'd particularly enjoy economics or accounting, but I just dropped further 3,4 ;-)
1/2 methods
1/2 further
1/2 english
1/2 busman
1/2 accounting
1/2 economics
dropped science as I find it difficult
Hoping for atar of 90+
Hi guys!!Hey there! ;D
Just saw this and I think it is a great idea ;D Welcome to Unit 2 all. We really should get this topic going again! How was Unit 1 for all of you guys?
I think it went pretty well and I'm pumped for Unit 2 now!

Hi guys,
is anyone doing the IB here? I'm from Australian International School Singapore but I was born in Melbourne and lived in Indonesia for a couple of years.

I enjoyed the majority of my unit 1 subjects, especially legal studies! It's a little content heavy, but the subject itself is so fascinating! I also finished unit 3 business management, so I'm planning to take notes on unit 4 AOS1 during the holidays. :) Any plans for the holidays?Oh Hey Jigsaw!
Hi guys!!Great idea to get this going again Marv!

Oh Hey Jigsaw!
I'm doin a business 3/4 subject as well! ;)
It'll be interesting to see how unit 4 goes, actually!
Holidays are work exp. and a Math Methods assignment :(
What are your plans?
Hey there! ;DUnit 1 was pretty good. I'm really loving Physics and Chemistry, we have a really great teacher and the content is fun. Was pretty happy with Methods and Spesh, but isn't Spesh supposed to be hard? Almost the entire exam was trig?!!! Not that I mind that ;-)
How did your unit 1s treat you? I really love that you're pumped and ready to go for your unit 2s! :)
All the best!! :)

Do you have plans for the holidays? ;DHomework :-(
Homework :-(Homework is always important, but it's good that that you're seeking some family and friends time too! ;D
So much holiday homework. This is the worst part of the Year 10-Year 11 jump!! Probably some family time as well though, some time with friends, but English and Methods will dominate my holidays. Might get some art done as well. How about you??
Homework is always important, but it's good that that you're seeking some family and friends time too! ;D
What are you doing for English and Methods currently?
What type of art are you into?
(Sorry for all the questions!!) ;D
Myself (being on semester break for uni)- I learnt how to play the ukulele today, and I've tried to pick up some knitting and crossstich recently. :)
English is mostly language analysis, but also some comparative writing between Paradise Road and some war poetry. Methods we are doing logarithms and indices which is thankfully very easy! :P I mostly do pencil and pastel sketches of birds (see my profile).Ah, language analysis is good fun! :) How's the comparative writing coming along?
Is the uke fun? I've never really learned any musical instrument except about a year or two of the piano, so I don't really know what it is like. I used to know how to crossstitch and knit myself, but I haven't done any for a while now ::)
Hope your uni break is good!
My subjects are mainly 1/2, being English, Methods, Physics, Accounting and Economics, and a 3/4, VCE VET Business Administration.
I am also doing a Cert IV in accounting through a TAFE sort of thing that is connected with the school, so that's cool.
Wow that's really cool!!The Bus. Admin will give me a Cert III.
Is the Cert IV apart of your VET or will you get a separate Cert I/II/III for Business Admin?
Do you do placements and stuff for your Cert IV in Accounting?
The Bus. Admin will give me a Cert III.Oh that all sounds so great!
I will have to complete several units post-grad to finish the Accounting.
I only have placement for the Business...
Oh that all sounds so great!Doing the placement this week...
How did that go? Was it enjoyable? Not so much?
Doing the placement this week...
Been pretty good so far. :D
Quote from Phoenix...Is anyone applying for School Captain? I'm thinking about it but I have no leadership experience whatsoever and no credentials (basically i'm not entirely sure what i've done with my life.) At my school people of any age can apply to be school captain but it's normally grads who get it (we don't have year levels). This year they haven't asked us to provide details of previous leadership experience which is a good thing for me I guess. I know of one girl who will definitely get it (she does leadership everything), and one guy who probably will (We will have 6 captains).
I'm thinking my only chance is to say that until recently I haven't had the confidence to apply to be a leader (which is true) and then spin it like I will be the best person because I want to encourage other people like me to develop their confidence/get involved in leadership etc.
Any one have any ideas? Or is anyone else thinking about applying?

Originally I was going to go with the whole "yes!! You never know until you try! Take all opportunities presented to you! If you don't you might regret it spiel!11!" and then laughed at myself thinking, why didn't I say that to myself when our captains were being decided?
Then I realised that it was because I didn't want to!
Not only was I like you (but in my case actually disqualified because you needed a couple of years in a committee I never ended up going to), but I couldn't actually see myself in that position. I always thought it would have been great to hold a leadership position, organise our grad events and get a nice badge (haha) but eventually I realised I was putting it down to whether it would be a nice enough addition to my resume.
And honestly, that kind of motivation didn't deserve the position. I tend to see myself as above all a sincere person. I do things because of genuine passion, and in most cases steer clear of things I don't honestly want or like. It dawned on me that trying for school captain or our leadership positions wasn't sincere.
So, with the thought that I'd generally encourage anyone to give anything a go, ask yourself first: do I want this? Am I genuinely a better pick for this than any of my peers? Am I being true to myself?
No need to reply or justify - just food for thought :))

My 1/2 subjects this year are methods, english language, biology, chemistry and media. I'm dropping media, hopefully for uni extension chemistry but if not for either environmental science or geography. Has anybody done either of those subjects (or both) and could tell me what they're like?I did most of those subjects a while back.* I also did university chemistry when I was in university so I guess it doesn't count, but if you do MUEP (Monash Extension), you'll be doing the same units (subjects). They weren't all that difficult, in fact they've been my best units except one. Also somewhat similar to Year 12 Chem when you get to the second semester.
My 1/2 exams start in exactly a week and aside from revising notes from time to time i have done... nothing. I focused really hard on my 3/4 which I hope paid off (feeling good about the exam and my results overall but honestly I have no idea what to expect). That feeling will become awfully familiar in later years. Welcome to your future.
SpoilerI'm so glad to see this thread finally active :DD I've been stalking it since like 2015 when I was trying out for JMSS hoping that it would start up!
How did everyone enjoy year 11? What 1/2s and 3/4s did you all do?
I did psych 3/4, just had my exam today, and I really enjoyed it! I skipped 1/2 but I think that was probably for the best because the 1/2 content didn't really inspire me at all

I really enjoyed all of my subjects, especially english language and chem. Englang was so different to core english and even though I liked core doing englang is so much better for me. Methods I honestly don't really know how well I'm going. Even though most of the content is revision + a little extra there's just so many topics it can be a little overwhelming. I'm fine with CAS tests but struggle with CAS free tests. At least 3/4 is more CAS based so I can hopefully not stress tooo much and work on the CAS free skills I need :)
(that was really long sorry)

3/4 over for the year, focus on 1/2!! :D :D :D
Nice work! :) How have you found the year?Pretty good actually.
Holy shit, why was this thread started in 2014...Because we're the best year. We needed a head start 😉

For semester 1 it's basically your only exam so you have heaps of time to study and get a good score. However for semester 2 you have your year 12 subjects so would probably neglect it a bit since it's only an increment but still possible to do very well if you enjoy chemistry. It's a great choice since the units aren't too difficult and getting 4.0/4.5/5.0 increments is much easier and a lot less time consuming than it would be to obtain a 40-50 SS :)
(that was really long sorry)
So I have an interview for school captain next Friday. They said the questions I'm going to be asked are how will you contribute to the school? What are your strengths? (Both of which I had to write about on the cover letter) and the one that's going to screw me over: what previous leadership experience do you have? (Within and outside school)Ooh, good luck! IMO, anything you say needs to be from the heart - so anything we tell you to say probably won't be that good. :)
Now the problem is i don't have any leadership experience (because putting myself out there for it was always too scary - I'm regretting applying for this 😂)
The most leadership thing I've done is training new staff at work, but that's sort of something everyone does. Anyone have any ideas?
really regretting it at the moment

Have year 12 transition starting in a few days
How are you feeling for it? :)Nervous to be honest. Don't really know what to expect for year 12
Congrats on applying!I work in woolies deli. When we get new staff the deli manager is normally there for an hour or two, and then he finishes. Whichever other staff are on are left to teach them everything, which takes at least a month (how much they actually get taught per shift varies depending on how busy it is). Recently a lot of staff have been on leave due to uni exams and we got 2 new staff a couple of weeks before they left. So it has basically just been me, one other person and our managers who know enough to train them. Both of them have mostly been working late when our managers aren't there. Everyone else that didn't take leave have only been there for a few months (I'll have been there 2 years this Thursday - unfortunately I don't get a party until 10 years) or work across multiple departments and don't know deli that well - monday nights especially, they've been there longer than me but they still ask me if they have questions.
I honestly wouldn't downplay what you've written here. What's your work at the moment? Going into Year 12, I'd certainly never trained others at work, and I'm sure many would be in the same position. IMO you could frame this really strongly.
Keen to hear how you get on. :)
Anyway, Year 11 is all done and I now have 2 months holiday, starting today. How's people's Year 12 transition going? Looking forward to next year? I sure am!
So much time for watching cricket! ;)Definitely agree mate. Can't wait to see: a) the Aussies win back the Ashes, b) Victoria win the Shield, and c) the Stars finally win the BBL!
c) the Stars finally win the BBL!
That'll be the day haha. Fingers crossed!I can't believe they've missed out so often despite being such a good team. Surely this year though!
So I have an interview for school captain next Friday. They said the questions I'm going to be asked are how will you contribute to the school? What are your strengths? (Both of which I had to write about on the cover letter) and the one that's going to screw me over: what previous leadership experience do you have? (Within and outside school)
Now the problem is i don't have any leadership experience (because putting myself out there for it was always too scary - I'm regretting applying for this 😂)
The most leadership thing I've done is training new staff at work, but that's sort of something everyone does. Anyone have any ideas?
really regretting it at the moment
Yoooo friends,Yay, work smarter not harder, kids! I love that motto, and it is actually so true! I have always tended to work hard, but be constantly getting sidetracked so that I would spend too much time doing things. Just a piece of advice I got from 'heids' is to go through the previous year's exam so that you have an idea of where you are headed for what you need to learn.
If you're looking for a bit of a head-start before Year 12, have a read of this article. It talks about game plan over the Summer holidays to put yourself in the best possible position prior to the re-start of school. Definitely recommend!
Just opened a topic for previous Year 12s to give us, the Class of '18, their bountiful wisdom and experience of school. Feel free to ask questions and talk to these experienced peers of yours, and I hope that we all find this added understanding useful.Great idea :)
What does one do when the class decides on a Yr 12 motto that is in another language that no one knows and the word doesn't mean what they think it means (a home, a place where one receives strength), but really means a place in a bullfighting ring? Strikes me as mad...I tried to treat this as a riddle and figure out what motto or word it could be, but I didn’t find it lol :(
Where a student arrives late
A student arriving late for a:
Written examination, up to 30 minutes after the scheduled start of writing time, will be admitted to the examination room. The student is allowed the full writing time but is given no allowance for reading time.
Written examination, after 30 minutes from the scheduled start of writing time, but before the scheduled finish of writing time, may be admitted only if all the following conditions are met:
The principal of the host school, or the principal's delegate, recommends the student's admittance.
The student is admitted into the room on the understanding that their response materials may not be accepted by the VCAA. The student must be advised of this condition and must sign acceptance of this requirement on the Statutory Declaration.
The student completes a statutory declaration immediately following the conclusion of the examination declaring:
-the reason for being late for the examination
-the time of admittance to the examination room
-they have not seen or read the examination question book prior to their admittance
-they have not received any information about the contents of the examination question book
they understand that their response materials may not be accepted by the VCAA.
Appropriate arrangements can be made to enable the student to complete the examination and that it can be completed without disruption to other students.
The student is allowed the full writing time but is given no allowance for reading time.
performance or Languages oral examination or Extended Investigation oral presentation may have their assessment rescheduled to an alternative time, provided the student has a valid reason for the lateness, which must be endorsed by the student's home school.
Are checkpoints for accounting, methods and further relevant if they are from 2016? Even though the study design could have changed? The current methods and further study designs started in 2016, so they are relevant. Not sure about accounting, I'm afraid :)
The current methods and further study designs started in 2016, so they are relevant.Didn't the 1/2 study design start in 2016 and the 3/4 in 2017? Or is it different for some subjects?
Didn't the 1/2 study design start in 2016 and the 3/4 in 2017? Or is it different for some subjects? The new 1/2 and 3/4 maths study designs started in my year (2016) :)
All the checkpoints i mentioned are for 3/4 subjectsYou should be fine for the maths checkpoints :)
Are checkpoints for accounting, methods and further relevant if they are from 2016? Even though the study design could have changed?
The accounting study design's last year is in 2018. It's been around since 2013, so checkpoints from 2016 will be relevant for that. Have a look here http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Pages/vce/studies/account/accountindex.aspx to confirmThanks
Does anyone know where to find accounting unit 3 AOS 1 practise sacs?Asking for copyrighted SACs are against the forum rules, I'm afraid. :)
Does anyone know where to find accounting unit 3 AOS 1 practise sacs?Have you tried here for resources?
They can't really be found because your school makes them. Try asking your teachers, some of my teachers use other schools SACs as practices, or ask for previous years tests. If you have friends doing it at a different school you could try asking if their teacher has given them any.For some reason, the teachers at my school took down all the past and practise sacs from the website. I guess i'll have to try emaiing my teachers for any practise sacs
Would unit 3 accounting exams from 2002-2012 be similar to the current study design? It depends on how much the study design has changed, someone here might be able to tell you. It is likely that some of it is relevant. I would be hesitant about starting VCAA exams this early in the year though as you will be wanting more at the end of the year.
Does anyone have any tips for year 12? Starting to feel anxious already lolSnowisawesome, just enjoy this break without stressing! It's called a holiday for a reason.
42 days of holidays left, hope it doesn't go too fast 8)

Is reading through the textbook an effective way to study?Anyone?
Anyone? It depends. Are you actively reading or passively reading the textbook?
Is reading through the textbook an effective way to study?
Is reading through the textbook an effective way to study?
Most people won't retain much information from reading but this can be improved by:Or annotating?
-reading aloud
-making summaries
-talk to someone about what you've just read
-list down questions as you are reading
Is reading through the textbook an effective way to study?Yes, but...
Thanks guys for the above help. Do you guys know whether accounting is a skill or content based subject?both, the theory component and application component are both very important .
Thanks :)
Is reading through the textbook an effective way to study?yes but it's not for everyone.
Also, does anyone know where i can find the sac to exam study score split for my subjects?
eg, sacs 34%, exam 66% etc
Thanks
Anyone here feeling ready for year 12?study designs should have it
Also, does anyone know where i can find the sac to exam study score split for my subjects?
eg, sacs 34%, exam 66% etc

It can be very tricky sometimes and requires some strong foundations. I’ve been doing some calculus in preparation for next year these days and there are definitely some tricky questions. I think having the solutions manual really helps.Did you find that the calculus was similar to calculus in 1/2 methods or was it a lot harder?
It’s definitely a step up, but not a big one imo. My school didn’t even bother to cover anti differentiation or areas under curves in 1/2. I just did it out of my own interest. I’m slightly biased as I truly enjoy calculus but I do believe it’s not too difficult. I’ve been doing a significant amount of textbook questions and think, with practice, eventually it becomes easy. It’s just the starting that’s tricky :P
Quick disclaimer: I haven’t covered it all yet, still working through areas under curves at the moment. Don’t plan to touch probability yet though, heard it’s a pain
[/quote
So much for my hopes of getting 35 raw in methods. Hope it doesn't get too difficult this year (year 12), especially probability and application questions in general :-\
So much for my hopes of getting 35 raw in methods. Hope it doesn't get too difficult this year (year 12), especially probability and application questions in general :-\It will, it simply requires a knowledge of why you do certain things. To do well in Methods, Chemistry and Physics you need to not simply know the formulas and what to do with them, you have to understand what you are actually using the formulas to do. That was something my dad drummed into me, since when he would help me with maths he would never tell me the answers, but would ask me to talk through what I'm doing and why, and this is so useful. Always try to understand the background maths, and it will eventually become easier. Hope this helps! :D
You'll be happy to hear there is no counting methods in year 12 methods. Thank god right? I hated those
Seeing your ease in asking questions and early preparations I believe you are definitely able to get 35. There's a long year ahead of us and that means plenty of time to improve :)
@quantum44 haven’t touched on probability have no clue but that’s what I heard haha.
@sarangiya Those silly questions where it asks you how many ways you can form a committee of 3 people out of 10 people or something
I’m close to finishing calculus for methods this year. Would it be better to start doing some practice sacs for functions and relations and calculus OR finish off probability textbook questions tooYou are usually wiser to consolidate knowledge about calculus now, and then do the probability thoroughly and consolidate that knowledge so that you know all of the content well by exam time.
Wtaf istg I've never even heard of that. Ragrets when you don't look through the textbook on 1/2I hope you intend to look through the textbooks this year :P
I hope you intend to look through the textbooks this year :P
You bet lmaoI know that many people either go into Year 12 taking it waayy too seriously (come on guys, your ATAR does not define your life) or not really caring, and neither path is a good idea, so take it seriously guys, but it's not the end of the world if you don't do as well as you wanted, so long as you have really put in all the effort.
When does everyone start school? And are you guys excited for year 12?
When does everyone start school? And are you guys excited for year 12?I don't start till Thursday for some reason, but yeah, pretty excited for Year 12, I think it's going to be a great year and I'll have lots of fun with my mates at school, so it should be good! Good luck everyone! :D
I start today :) Wishing everyone the best of luck! ;)Good luck ;D
How can I study "smarter" and not "harder" so that the time i spend studying is useful and effective?
I haven't thought about what I'm going to type yet, so you might come across a bunch of somewhat connected thoughts, but here are some ideas:
1. Limiting distractions. Don't take your phone into your study area. If you're trying to right an essay but are checking Facebook every three minutes, or if you're midway through a conversation with a friend, of course your work will suffer. You will lose your train of thought easily, and it's often quite difficult to get back into the 'study mindset'. Speaking of your study area:
2. Differentiate where you work and where you study. So for me, I never, ever studied in my room during VCE (I do now, but only due to necessity haha). Otherwise, I feel it's rather easy to get confused. For example, if you're trying to study on your bed (as I know a lot of people do), it would be easy to be tempted to just doze off for ten minutes (three hours).
3. Don't try to push yourself unnecessarily. If it's 10.30pm and you're absolutely knackered, go to bed. Sleep. If you have something that you really need to do, consider waking up early and doing it in the morning.
4. Prioritise. Do what you need to do - not what you want to do. I sometimes found myself doing countless hours of, say, VisCom in order to avoid Further, which I found relatively uninteresting. In one sense, that's a good form of procrastination. But in another sense, I would have benefitted much more from studying what I actually needed to study at the time.
5. Use to-do lists. I live by to-do lists and absolutely love them. Be organised. Have a diary. Do whatever it takes for you to feel on top of things. Sometimes, the hardest bit about studying is actually starting. I found that strategies like these help in that process, limiting time where you know that you should be studying, but you're not.
All of these strategies, really, are about efficiency. Why spend three hours on something when you can do it in an hour? Why struggle half-doing an essay for four hours when you can smash it out in two? It's all about being smart with your study strategies, and I guess that's what gives birth to the 'study smart, not hard' phrase. Of course, that's not to say that you shouldn't work hard; it just means that you shouldn't work hard fruitlessly (this evoked a mental image for me of studying next to a basket of fruit haha).
I know I'm a few hours late, but all the best for the year fam, and we're all here for you! ;D
How have you all enjoyed your first (for some subjects, at least) Year 12 classes? ;DThey've all been great bar psych.
Did you have first assembly for the year?We did. I didn't find it as entertaining/interesting as other years, but it was good nonetheless.
Do you have a common room?
Any study periods?
How have you all enjoyed your first (for some subjects, at least) Year 12 classes? ;DI've really enjoyed Physics and Chemistry, they have always been my favourite subjects, and we've now spent so long on Projectile Motion in Physics, and find that in last years exam there was one Projectile Motion question worth 11% of the total!! Yay! Methods has been OK, pretty easy still, and English and Texts downright boring, but maybe they'll pick up...
Did you have first assembly for the year?First assembly was basically outlining the rules of the school to the Year 7s and telling the students how the building work is going, pretty useless and boring, but hey, it got us off an English period! :) We did have a common room, but because of building works it has become a maths classroom >:(
Do you have a common room?
Any study periods?
That sounds tough. I used to use my Eng Lang [distance ed] periods for other subjects anyway just because I found it easier to work on distance ed from home but I'm guessing that you did the same thing last year and have an established routine?Yeah, I actually do a lot of the distance ed stuff at home, but last year I found Spesh really easy. I don't expect to find the same this year, but fingers crossed :P
I'm suprised to hear that you're studying projectile motion. Are you starting circular motion or fields soon?

Oh, sup y'all. Neat thread we got going here.Biology is defintiely one of the tougher subjects VCE can offer. What specific aspects are you finding tough? Remember ATAR Notes free help and advice if you ever require it. :)
To answer the question, Biology is a killer. Does anyone truly understand more than 25% of the content? :-[ I'm strugglin' y'all.

If you haven't seen already here is the VCE Biology Question Thread for any subject questions you (or anyone else) wants to ask?
Also if you are interested here is a thread cookiedream posted last night where she went into detail on what she did to put her in a position to achieve a 50 in bio there is an abundance of more resources just like this on the biology board.
A couple of weeks in! How's everyone feeling? Any SACs coming up? Everyone enjoying their subjects?Same here, all my other subjects are awesome except the dreaded english. Suppose we'll just have to get through it this year somehow >:(
I'm certainly loving all of my subjects except English >:( Physics and Chemistry are awesome, Methods is pretty cool too, and Spesh hasn't really started yet... Pretty good start to the year for me! :D
Are people looking forward to term 2?Haha, good joke.
Finished your holiday homework?Haha, good... wait.
Update: The three SAC's were all A's and the world is Rose coloured once more! :DAwesome!!!! Congrats!
Awesome!!!! Congrats!Thanks!
Thanks! It's not too bad! A little less exciting that what I thought it would be, but I look forward to the classes every week.
How is your Cert III going?
Update: The three SAC's were all A's and the world is Rose coloured once more! :D
How's your Cert IV?Hmmm.. Not good. Because it is truly extracurricular, there is not a lot of emphasis on it over school coursework, so I actually missed the date for the first unit's submission. It's been a fair bit of trouble to get back into it, but the next unit is on Excel, so it should be good in the end...

:D
Thanks J41 :)
No worries. I'm pretty ignorant in regard to stuff like this - how does the structure of the Cert IV work?:D
Did your school offer accounting as a subject? We do accounting as a subject through year 12 - We're a very business focused school.
Would you have taken it instead it not?
We do accounting as a subject through year 12 - We're a very business focused school. What a great idea :)
I chose the Cert IV because some of the units (a lot) were covered in class, so it was relatively easy.
Well...., haven't we come a long way? :)
I'll show you all up when I only have one more 3/4 to study in Year 12 :)Does five subjects in Year 12.
I'm not planning to do any math and even if I did there'd be no way I could do that well.Does methods. (Not doing well hasn't changed much though lmao)
Calculus = naw. I'm not sure what the syllabus for next year will be for me since we're in streamed classes. This year it was linear equations/graphing (only straight, linear lines. No curves yet (is that calculus? idek)), measurement (perimeter, area, volume), fractions/decimals/percentages and probably more but I don'tNo explanation needed lmaoooooooo death (back when math was bearable...)careremember.
I try to think that my university prospects will change from now, so I don't make up my mind too much. My plan of now is a Bachelor of Art (if I can Scholar's Program) at Monash with 2 majors of Japanese and Korean, followed by a double Masters of Translation and Interpreting (one year in Monash in AU with a masters recognised in Australia, one year in 神戸外大 (Kobe University of Foreign Studies) in JP with a masters recognised in Japan). Was definitely right on those prospects changing wow.
But we'll see ;D
The future? I'll probably do 3/4 Philosophy in 2016 since I'm doing 1/2 next year. I'd like to do another 1/2 in 2015 but the school reckons my timetable is too tight and I'd miss too many classes. :'(I did do philosophy the following year, as well as psychology, which I apparently thought I'd do the year after.
For 2017, hopefully English Language and something else (I'm thinking history: rev or psychology (probably psych)). Then in 2018 whatever I didn't do in 2017 plus maybe chemistry (probably not - most likely I'll do Japanese through UMEP or something).
Does anyone know what the gatchphrase is this year? I’ve heard many different suggestions but I don’t know if ones been pickedNope.
What suggestions have you heard?-what does the queen do anyway
-what does the queen do anywayI've only heard the
-Yanny vs laurel (I really hope not lol)
-Ball tampering - someone then suggested that this could also relate to george pell
-If the teacher doesn't show up in fifteen minutes then we're legally allowed to leave
Come a long way? I'll say!
Could someone please explain to me what this GATchphrase thing is? It seems to be clogging up my FB feed and I am so confused.
Could someone please explain to me what this GATchphrase thing is? It seems to be clogging up my FB feed and I am so confused. It's like a phrase that some students doing the GAT that particular year tries to work in to their essays. Last year it was on club penguin, and I'm pretty sure this year it's if the teacher doesn't arrive after 15 minutes students are legally allowed to leave.
Every year, people sitting the GAT decide on a certain "catchphrase" (hence, GATchphrase) to include in their GAT responses. I'm not really sure how or when it started, but it's definitely become a thing. I think the idea is probably to make the assessors think, like, "why are so many people talking about Rebecca Black?", or whatever the GATchphrase may be.
It's not compulsory. In fact, I recommend not doing it, because I think it'd only reduce the quality of your response(s). #funpolice

Last year it was on club penguin, and I'm pretty sure this year it's if the teacher doesn't arrive after 15 minutes students are legally allowed to leave.ah ok. That makes sense as to why I am all of a sudden seeing that 15 minutes thing everywhere . haha
Does anyone know when the ATARnotes VCE lecture dates will be released?
General Update.Well done for getting through the tough assessment week! ^_^
GAT over, horrible SAC week done, got basically two easy weeks before holidays.
What have all you guys got coming up?
Well done for getting through the tough assessment week! ^_^Thanks.
What's your plans for relaxing (a little or somewhat, idk haha) over the next few weeks? ;D
Thanks.Ooo travelling! Where too?
The plan is a bit of travelling, reading, and starting on my second assessment for my Cert IV....
Also planning to hit the Icehouse in Melbourne during the holidays.
Ooo travelling! Where too?Gippsland calls... :)
The Icehouse sounds cool!
What do you plan to read? ;D
Gippsland calls... :)Nice!
Planning to finally read the other John Green books, Turtle's all the way down and An abundance of Katherines...
And my text for English... (Ransom)
Nice!Fav would have to be Looking for Alaska... :)
I loved Abundance of Katherines!
What's your favourite John Green book so far? ;D
(Also to note- John's brother Hank has a book coming out soon :D (I think it's soon... can't remember the release date!))

Hey all. This may be of interest to you! ;DYes, thanks so much Nick! <3
P.S. How are things, everyone?
I’m not even really scared about how close exams are anymore, I’m just so happy to be almost done with school (and in a couple of months I’ll never have to write another text response if media analysis ever again!)I didn't think of this bit, but good point! It'll be a relief; comparatives are so awful -_-
Just booked!Yay! Finally ;D
I'll be at Further and P.E. on the 22nd, and Legal on the 30th! Sorry, Yertle, won't be able to meet-up with you - but Phoenixx, we're going to the same morning lecture! :)) (Finally lol)
I didn't think of this bit, but good point! It'll be a relief; comparatives are so awful -_-Lol. I haven’t even written a media analysis since my SAC. I really need to get on that (after I’ve done this darn comparative)
How's everyone going with English atm? Is the whole '3 essays in 3 hours' thing still daunting, or have you been practicing?
I’ll be at further and English on the 22nd ;D

We all know your true motive is to steal pizza :PLmao I get enough "free" pizza at uni, so noone needs to worry about me stealing any ;)
(@insanipi - Also yes pls hot chocolate/chai latte would be very very nice <3 )Consider it sold <3
And the Great Pizza Scam continues into its third season!IDK. If I can make it maybe. All my visits to the city are surgical Ops... In and out, fast paced etc... :D
S200, will you be there for pizza?
(@insanipi - Also yes pls hot chocolate/chai latte would be very very nice <3 )
Next week I have three SAC's and my Physics EPI is due, so idk how it's all gonna go..Good luck man! Just don't do what I did, which was to freak out over my 3 SACs and end up studying for none of them lol.
Anyone already on holidays? :DI wish.
Weird to think that I haveUnfortunately, yes...1015 days left of school....holy shit I have1015 days left of school :o
Do you guys have to go to school in term 4?
For ~15 days...
Hey! Anyone else got La Trobe ASPIRE early offers? They were released today :) ;)You got an offer, then? Congratulations! That must be a weight off your back. :)
You got an offer, then? Congratulations! That must be a weight off your back. :)I was originally aiming for Dent at Adelaide Uni, but UMAT happened. :(
And to answer, no, I'm not really aiming for La Trobe, but I am applying for their other scholarships, such as Access, just in case. I am curious to see who wants to go to what unis though. I'm hoping for Monash.
What course are you aiming for?
And I got the conditional offer for dent at La Trobe so I'm stoked but still need to get a good ATAR. It is a huge relief though!OMG Congratulations!!!!!!!! That is so awesome.
How many exams do you guys plan to do per day over the holidays?Just saying, this is totally the wrong time of year to burn out. You have to be very careful with yourself at this stage of the year and 5 practice exams is far too much in my opinion. One is probably enough at this stage, and I doubt that I'll even manage that.
I’m sort of planning to do 5 but thinking this may be overkill...

Trial exams in the holidays must suck.Pls fulfill your destined role as preacher <3
With the English exam tomorrow, I just want to wish everyone the absolute best of luck for all their exams. It’s been a long year for everyone and now we are on the final home stretch. Let’s put in everything we have for the next couple weeks and look forward to the months of holidays awaiting us.Thanks, Lear! All the best for your exams as well (and take your own advice - look after yourself).
Remember to stay calm, take regular breaks, eat well and stay hydrated.
Mainly understand that VCE is only a small part of your life. Your life is not dictated by how you go in the next few weeks. The best we can do it give it our 100% and hope for the best.
It’s been a pleasure to see you all develop on this forum through out the past several months. There are a lot of familiar faces that I hope will still be here next year.
Good luck!

For those who hate English like me, only 25 hours more of pain before it is all in the past! :P Hope everyone can stay focused and happy throughout this exam period and can remind themselves that this is not the part of our lives that define us. Who we are doesn't depend on the box with the number on it that VCAA tries to stuff us into. I have seen everyone on this forum show that they are more than a number, so focus on who you are rather than the marks you get.

Genuinely English was my biggest worry out of all subjects. Despite exams just starting I already feel somewhat free.Unfortunately, I didn't worry enough about English... :'(
Not sure if this helps but I was really worried that I'd get less than 25 on eng lang but in the end I did alright. Thanks Mini.
My advice to just not think about it at all. Forget what you wrote, forget the prompts, don't look at suggested solutions etc. Take a bit of a break for a bit if you feel super drained, and then shift your focus to the future. You'll be alright; enjoy the freedom :)
Does anyone know what is required to get a moderated score based off the GAT?Short-term incapacitation. You’d know if you qualified. Things like having a cold or whatever don’t normally count. It’s more things like breaking an arm or detaching your retina or having a heart attack

Rn 25 even sounds way too high... :-\
People are leaving terrible reviews on the real Calmer Cafe in aberfeldie. Inb4 VCAA gets sued again for disparaging a real placeLol. I spent the whole Sec C just going off at the Jenkins dude for being a bigot and not even trying to understand other demographics.
How immature.
I have a friend who scored in the single digits for English and is studying a course that aligned with their interests at RMIT.That is the most re-assuring thing I've heard all day... :)
(from memory they wrote one sentence in their exam)
Whatever happens, it's not the end. You keep moving forwards, it's ok.

Same! The rest of my subjects are pretty chill haha

Although I am happy for you guys I'm kinda regretting not just doing normal English. I don't have my first Exam till Monday and EngLang (the one I'm really worrying about) isn't till the 16th.No, really - be glad you're doing EngLang. Knowing you IRL, you'll do better in that than normal English. And besides, regrets shouldn't be a thing right now. Just work hard and do your best with what you've got. :)

Sucks to be that cafe thoughThat Cafe just got introduced to 43000 students...
Apparently they’re offering year 12 students who bring ID and mention that question a free coffee 😂
That Cafe just got introduced to 43000 students...Lemons to lemonade, hey - I'm sure they'll do just fine. Although it's funny for a little bit, giving bad reviews on a professional site is old news - TSFX deserved it, at least. Jonty Jenkins needs to pull his head in
Any publicity is good publicity? ???
I got an ice-cream and went for a walk. We all deserve it :)Now I’m craving ice cream :'(
Now I’m craving ice cream :'(This has got me convinced that I need an icecream tomorrow. Especially as I have an exam. Sugar <3
(And I’m definitely going to get one tomorrow, it’s going to be HOT)
So, what's up for everyone? Anything else this week? Rest a little tonight and give yourselves a pat on the back - I got an ice-cream and went for a walk. We all deserve it :)Lol. I will relax until 2pm, when I start my Eco exam :(
Obviously English, last week. I had Eco the day after that, and Methods 1 today.
Methods 2 tomorrow, Physics next Wednesday.
Why does wednesday need a capital? :(
Wednesday is a proper noun*sigh*
I'm interested to see what the physics exam is like - what are you doing for your summary sheet?Just a sorta chop and slop of a couple examples I have...
Positivity, my friend. Positivity.cheers bro, do you anyone will get full marks on the methods exam 1?
;D
Don't worry, your study scores and ATARs are just rankings after all. That last question in methods exam 1 screwed pretty much everyone over.
cheers bro, do you anyone will get full marks on the methods exam 1?Heya,
cheers bro, do you anyone will get full marks on the methods exam 1?No doubt someone's gonna get full marks. As far as I know no one in my school's methods 3/4 cohort did. Our methods rank 1 did get the last question right, but she forgot to put dx behind every single integral sign, so... yeah.

No use stressing over an exam that has already happened, to be honest. Just focus on whatever subjects you still have left and ace them all ;D All the best for the rest of your exams.
How’s everyone feeling about the upcoming holiday before uni? I still have two exams to go but already feel so free. I swear i’m going to sleep for 3 days straight after my exams end haha!Ah, breathing space! Definitely looking forward to it - hopefully I'll manage to snag a second job and make some money early on, but I agree on sleeping for a straight 72 hours... so much to catch up on oml -_-

Who's got an exam today? I've got P.E. in a little more then an hour.
have my last vce exam today, can't wait to finish, and than no more stupid school uniform forever lolWhoa - you have to wear school uniform to exams? Our school just let us go in mufti.

I've slightly gotten used to wearing school uniform for 5/7 days for the last 12 years or so. Gonna be sort of tricky in the first few months of uni where I feel like I have to wear something different everyday LOL.Same. During my SWOTVAC and exam days I've been showing up at school consistently in a navy blue shirt and beige cargo pants, to the point where my principal came up to me and said 'Do you own any other clothes?'

Same. During my SWOTVAC and exam days I've been showing up at school consistently in a navy blue shirt and beige cargo pants, to the point where my principal came up to me and said 'Do you own any other clothes?'Ouch, that's harsh. :(
Also I wonder how weird it would be if I kept wearing my year 12 jacket in uni. I paid 90 bucks for that, and it's super comfortable.

The difference between us is, I literally don't have any other clothes. :D
OOooh good luck for PE! I've got history right after you!WAH HISTORY! I'm looking forward to those memes pls :))
TLDR; in general, wear what you wantOh man uni's gonna be so hard :(
No exam for me today luckily. Good luck with yours :)Yeah our school is so strict on uniform lol, compulsory tie in winter as well (we're a high performing school so I guess it makes sense to be strict on uniform)
Wait you guys had to wear school uniform to exams?? Fortunately we could wear anything we liked. I imagine school uniform for exams could be pretty uncomfortable....

Defo planning on rocking up to O-week in scuba gear, then. Not going to lie, that'd be so cool! :))
can you pretty wear whatever you want in uni (as long as it's still appropriate)?Pretty much!
Yeah our school is so strict on uniform lol, compulsory tie in winter as well (we're a high performing school so I guess it makes sense to be strict on uniform)
Defo planning on rocking up to O-week in scuba gear, then. That's not actually a bad idea. You'd meet plenty of people and starting convos would be easy.
can you pretty wear whatever you want in uni (as long as it's still appropriate)?
Oh yeah, throughout the year uniform is pretty strict. Specific socks, ties, tucked in shirts, blazers and the likes. Exam period as lax tho thankfully. Is this a public school? I haven't heard many public schools being so strict except for selective schools.Yeah I'm at a public school. hbu?
Yeah I'm at a public school. hbu?Yeah public selective. What are the chances we go the same school eh?
Yeah public selective. What are the chances we go the same school eh?I'm at a public non selective. Which selective school do you go to, if you don't mind me asking?
Is there a uni discussion thread on atar notes? There is a general uni discussion board, you can find it here
There is a general uni discussion board, you can find it hereCheers insanipi ;D (love the username btw) ;)
There are also uni-specific boards, which you can find here for Vic and here for NSW. :)
just realised i'm now a "trendsetter" (what does this even mean lol?)
Is it true that we can see our actual exam we did in physical copy but then we have to tear it up afterwards or something?
I don't think so. I think VCAA purposefully does not give back exam papers. Can you imagine 10000 kids across Victoria trying to call up VCAA to argue for marks. Would be a mess haha.So we're allowed to get an exam statement which tells us where we lost marks but not the actual exam itself?
So we're allowed to get an exam statement which tells us where we lost marks but not the actual exam itself?Yeah, that's right.
You can pay to have a look at your exam, but you only get it for 15min and it has to be at your school and supervised and there’s no marking on the actual exam, just your answers so there’s no point.Wait, so we cna actually have a look at the physical copy of our exam?
Can we take photos of our answers?Nope.
Nope.So we can look at a physical copy of our exam with no marking for 15 minutes, yeah?
Um so I'm not sure if this is in the right spot, but I've heard that apparently for subject scaling you get scaled according to the scaling of the year you graduate, not necessarily the year you did your exam? So for example I did a lote last year but the actual scaling will be depending on this year's cohort?Nope, that is definitely not true.
Can anyone confirm if this is true?
Also hi everyone I've been lurking around for quite a while but never got to know my fellow 2018 graduates :D
Also hi everyone I've been lurking around for quite a while but never got to know my fellow 2018 graduates :DWilkommen!
1) Where do I get one of these?1) Sort of near the state library lol
2) Did you drop any of it on the ground?
3) Once exams are over, the reality of your new situation kicks in (school can't protect your innocence and lack of responsibilities anymore) ;D ;D

How's everyone finding the break? Does it feel like holidays yet?It doesn't really feel like holidays, surprisingly I'm not super bored yet either. I think it'll be a bit different after results come out, at the moment I still kinda feel like I'm in high school

Has anyone started prepping for next year yet - eg applying for youth allowances and stuff.Haven't yet but I'm going to soon - Apparently you can get Youth allowance from Jan 1st, I thought you had to wait until you had course details but apparently not (although I'm not entirely sure how I'm supposed to apply without it).

Also RIP me, apparently I'm too good at saving money at they're gonna make me wait a month or so until they'll give me youth allowance because I have too much money in my bank (although I'm considering just taking out the cash and not declaring it lol).
Also centrelink is really confusing, don't even know how it's supposed to work because from Jan 1 I'll be living at home but I'll be moving out later so I guess I have to change it or something??
(I was trying to figure all this out this morning, hence the confused ranting lol)
Relatable ;DI feel this so much haha. I stopped my alarm a while ago but still wake up early!
I still have my 6:00am alarm on every morning and feels incredibly guilty if I sleep past that. It feels weird to have no schedule all of a sudden.
Also this morning I picked up a pen and physically wrote something for the first time in a week and it felt *off* lol.
Has anyone started prepping for next year yet - eg applying for youth allowances and stuff.
Independence for youth allowance isn't based on whether or not you live with family, but if you are living away from home you can get a higher rateYeah that's what I meant, I assume I'll have to tell them at some point that I'm moving out so that they give me the higher rate.
Has anyone started prepping for next year yet - eg applying for youth allowances and stuff. You should probably fill in Tax File Number forms soon too, if you haven't already. You'll need it for next year anyway if you want to get a CSP for your tertiary course or a job of any sort (part-time, casual, full time, contract), which I imagine is a lot of the Class of 2018. TFNs can take a while to arrive (read: up to 6 weeks IIRC), so might be worth a shot before Christmas arrives.

I'm reading through the criteria list but it's so confusing...
Question - my parents are moving overseas in January next year permanently but I'll still be in Australia, would I still be considered 'dependent' though? I'm reading through the criteria list but it's so confusing...Pretty sure you'd still be a dependent, although there is a criteria for independence that's something about parents not being able to look after you - I'm pretty sure that mostly relates to family violence situations, but it may apply if they can't look after you cos they're overseas (kinda doubt it though). There's a criteria for being 16 or 17 and needing to live away from home to study so I think it'd be the same.
Also everything I've found on youth allowances so far are for uni students over 18. I'll still be 17 for the most of the next year though, how different would it be?
Argh I'm not ready for adult life
Happy December all. This is a visual representation of me every time I accidentally start worrying about results
I, for one, am already starting to feel the nerves creep up on me. 14 days left *shudders*.
I’m just thinking that someone out there is reading my exam and is like ‘what the **** is this?’
I’m just thinking that someone out there is reading my exam and is like ‘what the **** is this?’I seriously don't think that anyone will be able to read the last few sentences that I wrote on my enviro exam because I was in such a rush (the invigilator skipped me and let me keep scribbling when she was collecting exams at the end ;D)
Happy December all.

What do people reckon we should open first, ATAR or study scores?I'm definitely going to start with study scores! I figured out if I get my specialist and english language Study Scores to add to at least 65 (e.g. Lang 33, Spec 32) I've pretty much secured a 95, so that way it will be a bit of a indication of ATAR anyway and it won't be so much of a surprise to just be hit with some random 4-digit number :O
Also is it true that if you’re overseas when results come out you can’t view it until 7:15am AEST?
Aaaahh I’m getting so nervous hahah! I had a nightmare last night where I opened up the website and got a 49 ATAR lol :'(

does anyone have an estimate as to when the honour roll will come out?
I don't have an answer to this unfortunately but instead another question: does anyone know when the honour roll is published in the newspaper? (it's in The Age, right?)
From memory, I think it'll go out on the weekend. I could be wrongIt has also been known to come out on a Monday or Tuesday, too. I think it's pretty variable
I don't have an answer to this unfortunately but instead another question: does anyone know when the honour roll is published in the newspaper? (it's in The Age, right?)Looks like last year’s was December 13 (https://www.theage.com.au/national/2017-vce-student-honour-roll-20171213-h03sl8.html), I’m not sure what day the results actually came out though. Can a 2017 year 12 confirm please?
Also, does the honour roll show raw or scaled scores? So if I got 40 in a subject that scaled to 38, would I be on it for that subject?Honour roll shows raw scores :)
And also, has anyone not received their vass email with gat results yet? My friend told me she received them just before 7 and I haven’t yet, and it’s almost been 3 hours.Might just be coming out slowly, so I'd wait a little. There's a lot (50k+) of you so it might take a little time to get to everybody.
Hey guys! Just wondering, does anyone know what exactly is the purpose of the VCE Baccalaureate? Like, I guess it could potentially make your VCE certificate seem more “fancy” but is there a practical purpose (like when applying for courses/unis and stuff). Thanks!Nope. Just looks kind of cool in your resume and says “I’m a diverse student”. And you get a different shade of blue in your certificate so it looks a little fancier. (I received one of these in the first year they were given out, hence why I know.)
Are VTAC offers emailed to our personal or school email??
Are VTAC offers emailed to our personal or school email??Whatever email you gave them
All the best for first round offers, everybody. :)
I can't really remember, but I assume whichever email address you used to make your VTAC account.
I used my personal one to sign up for a VTAC account but when study scores were released they were sent to my school email ???They're sent by different people (results were VCAA not VTAC)
