Peedles: Im never complacent, although not disparaged, I put alot of thought into my responses + diagrams, graphs and stats, you can never be too confident considering its one person marking and despite the questions seem straightfoward its difficult to anticipate what exactly they want (I doubted my Music and Health 40% assignment but ended up with a H1, so who knows!)

Ed: I didnt register for the field trip and hope I wont regret it since they remarked its not being assessed and is optional, but just in case Ill include examples of plant species from the trip to convince them I indeed care about forestry and am not just here for the quick credit, although I am, (but I like some aspects of the course, eg human evolution along side forests, never really thought about it)

EDIT: I cant imagine why anyone would want to go to tutes,

For someone living a considerable distance from uni, a standard day would be,

6:00 wake up

8:30 start lecture

1:00 end lecture

2:00 start tute

6:00 end tute

~7:30 return home

thats not just intolerable and unimaginable but torturous

That's why there are tutes The tutors hang around the rooms earlier in the afternoon and the tutes get formal later (around 4pm) where you'll get an opportunity for your answers to be critiqued.

Don't worry you didn't miss out on anything from the trip. The other guy (Peter) talked for most of the trip which was way better than the old dude.

It's a 1 week intensive subject, obviously it will run for long hours so it is unreasonable to complain

They said the 200 word limit isn't strict but you'll get penalised if you get up to 300-400 words. I managed to keep mine within the 180-250 range. General comments were writing concisely and write your responses like how you would do them in the exam i.e. no need for extra research

If you are going over the limit by heaps, cut out the irrelevant stuff because it is likely you aren't answering the question. Also, they'll take marks off putting in stuff which are unrelated to the question. Hope this helps..


And by critique, I mean he checks one or two to see if you're going in the right direction.

I wrote 220 words for that question. I just talked about the equation and described all the factors that cause soil erosion by water...

Im sure so did everyone else, I found it harder to elaborate on q3, "why net deforestation stopped...USA and Europe" value of forests was recognised and I suppose those nations learned not to abuse forests after minoan crete/ rome downfall

Nope, they can't be resubmitted

Interesting, Roger replied to my email about my going over the word limit in my responses, remarked I wouldn't be penalised

Yeh probably not but if it had 400 words, the tutor said he would stop reading mid way and you'll lose marks. Wasn't hard keeping within the word limit, the most I had was about 260 for the last question. Do you know if we have to upload the files to both sets of links on the LMS? There're the 'Questions 1-4' links at the top and 'Monday-Friday' links at the bottom of the page...
