Considering transferring courses and accelerating to take up this offer.

I promise it would be a sound investment!!

I just finished the strangest study at Redmond Barry. You're paid >$10 dollars to rate how much you would like to eat the food in a long series of photos. At the end, you're shown each of the actual foods on a platform. After you hear a bell (2 bells for each trial, 28 trials) you place a bid on each item with the supplementary money you are given. Near the end, the researcher places everything in a mystery bag and conceals her eyes, while randomly choosing an item to pull out of the bag. Then an arbitrarily chosen counter bid is pulled out of another mystery bag, and if the counter bid is lower than your bid, you win the food item. If not, you keep your money. It was like Wheel of Fortune.

This is what our postgrads are doing.

Number one in Australia! If anyone wants to make quick money from it there are details below. It was very awkward fun.

Spoiler
Thank you very much for indicating your interest in our study ‘Neural and cognitive studies of reward sensitivity and its influence on cognitive control performance’.
Before we get you in to participate in the study, I will just give you a little bit more information about what is involved. As stated in the advertisement, the total time commitment for the study is around 1.5 hours, for which you will be reimbursed $10 plus any additional payments you may receive throughout the task. The task involves you making some decisions about how much you like, and are familiar with snack food items, and you will also be required to answer some questionnaires.

In addition to what was mentioned in the advertisement, all participants will be asked not to consume any food for 3 hours prior to their participation. I will send you a text message prior to your session to remind you not to consume any food for the 3 hours prior to testing. Testing will be undertaken at the University of Melbourne at the Parkville campus.

Just to remind you, it is very important for the purposes of our study that you actively enjoy and regularly consume snack foods such as chips, lollies and chocolate. It is also very important that you are familiar with regular snack food brands found in Australian supermarkets, that you have not dieted in the past year and that you are not vegetarian.

Prior to commencing the study, we will run though a few questions to double check that you meet these criterion, however if you don't we will not continue with the study.

Does anyone know where I can find information on study loads for exchange? Want to know if I can take 3 subjects as opposed to 4.

You can definitely take the equivalent of three Melb subjects but it's often a shit deal.  Ie it usually won't be 'three subjects' overseas.
http://www.mobility.unimelb.edu.au/outbound/exchange/credit/index.html

So for eg, when I went to Penn 3 subject load was 3 cu (three courses at Penn) and now a 3 subject load is 4 cu (four courses at Penn).

That's fine by me - I'd rather do more subjects. The reason I want to do three on exchange is so that I have enough subjects left to be studying full-time at UoM when I come back.

I think it depends on the uni you choose as well, some uni's will have a different idea of what 'full time load' is. 50 Melbourne points = 60 UK points to give you an idea.

A few more questions:

* do they start from scratch? Like with what the articles (der, die, das) mean? Also like the numbers and accusative/nom/gen/ dat. cases?

* what types of assessments are there? Listening, Oral and writing?

* do you need to have done VCE German to do German at uni?

thanks & once again, hope I'm not hijacking the thread.

They start from scratch and the assessment should involve all of those things. Though it's worthwhile remembering that oral and listening are often assessed together, as they should be. When you think about it, there's a listening component to any oral exam, otherwise what do you respond to?

hi guys, could someone please help me out with something.. it's probably something really stupid and i could find out myself, but i'm just really stressed and cannot think straight :(

This year in sem 2, I didn't do a breadth, but intended on making up for that during the summer, I also failed a subject in in sem 2 lol. Now my grandma is quite ill overseas and my parents want me to go visit in jan or feb for a few weeks. Is it alright if I pick up a breadth mid year to make up for it? And can you do say, a level 3 subject if you're second year?

:( sorry if this doesn't belong here and these are really stupid questions.. I'm just feeling soo ashdbaksjdnaks  :-[
