I think only moderators can give you respect points
YOU get a respect point! YOU get a respect point! EVERYBODY GETS A RESPECT POINT.

What league is the Melbourne Uni Football (AFL) Club in?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne_University_Football_Club
They play in the VAFA across the different divisions. AFAIK they have teams in each of the top few tiers.

Work just called in and I've been put in the 1-7pm shift which means I'll be missing my first Sports coaching lectures
Is this a problem? Do they usually asign partners and all in the first lecture or?

Every post with more than 3 +1 will give you +1 total respect.
Not quite, sometimes 3 upvotes will give you +1 but it'll depend on what tenth you're sitting on.
Ok I think we may have a little bit of a mistake somewhere, because its +0.4 for every upvote after 2 upvotes, or it was as far as DavidBeck has told me since december 2011 (23/12) through pm's. It used to be +3 for +1 before it was changed at some point during this year.

I.e. this means that
+1 Earns 0 respect
+2 Earns 0 respect
+3 Earns +0.4 respect
+4 Earns +0.8 respect
+5 Earns +1.2 respect

and so on

Let n be the number of upvotes
where and is an integer.

It may appear that a +4 post has earned +1 respect if your respect started on xxx.2 (as 0.2+0.8=1.0)

On the stats page it appears that everything is in whole numbers, but that is because the decimal point is dropped.

Just to double check this, me and laseredd have expiremented with upvoting some posts and wacthing the change on the stats page (before when there was decimals and when they have been dropped) and this confirmed the +0.4.

Dw, we unvoted afterwards aswell. Also same goes for downvoting, -0.4 for every downvote after 2 downvotes

EDIT: Added formula.

Has anyone else reading started studying? I have, and I feel like I'm almost going overboard.

You almost certainly are :P It's good to be keen, but don't stress yourself out before you've even started semester. Do readings as they're assigned/recommended - I personally don't find it helpful to read ahead unless I'm super-curious about a specific topic, because it's not immediately backed up by content taught at university. You might like to slow down a bit!

Okay thanks :)
I guess you do have a point, particularly with philosophy, since there are some things I don't completely understand and need clarification with.

I personally have done little studying during year 12 and have been mostly learning programming and sometimes watching MIT lectures online. Hopefully my procrastination during year 12 will help me in university.
I didn't do much studying during the holidays because I was still not sure what subjects I wanted to do until 3 days ago. 3 days ago I suddenly decided that I no longer want to do medicine. If I got 99.90 then I would have done medicine but now I will do what I am truly passionate about and stop chasing the "dream" of becoming a doctor.

You know, I always love hearing this happen to people. I'm happy that you've finally discovered your true path. As the saying goes,

"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."

I won't by any means tell you what to think, but I feel like that's the wrong attitude. You should never stop chasing your dream, and if your dream is to become a doctor then there's no sense in giving up, especially now that you're only just starting tertiary education. Giving up on studying and practicing medicine would - in my eyes - be akin to giving up on VCE on the first day of kindergarten; you have so much time and so many opportunities to do what you want to do over the next few years, and a BSc is a perfectly adequate entry point to study medicine after undergraduate study.

The same can be said with everything else, follow what you're passionate about - but don't forget that things change over time and you may end up wanting to do something entirely different.

tl;dr: Don't give up :)

I still remember my first biology lecture last year in biomed. The girl sitting in front of me had at least 30 pages of detailed notes having summarised the first 5 or so chapters of the textbook. Turns out she didnt need them... lol

eek, sucks to be her.

Anyway, I've just been doing my readings, annotating them, doing some wider reading on certain things. Just trying to get the upper hand as they say.

How does respect work?
I got like 7 +1s but my respect is still zero :(

Congratulations on your first respect point, may there be many more to come :)
