Wow, that GENE20001 class was good! A quiet cohort for once. It's hard to believe only 5 minutes prior Odilia was begging for us to pay attention at the end of her lecture lol.

It was so much better, even though population genetics isn't exactly my favourite thing to do.

Damn so would chemical or software be better as a backup?

Friend's doing chemical and apparently there aren't as many prospects as the other engineering streams (civil etc)?
Maybe go with where your interests lie the most in!! :)

KBean, you're correct. I'm in exactly the same situation as you (doing 3 subjects this semester) and 5 to make up before I graduate.
I went to MDHS and they said that only the 3 subjects will be included in the 3rd year provisional GPA. With regards to the rest of the subjects, you're required to maintain your GPA to retain your conditional offer (should you receive one).

Ah that's excellent to hear  :)
I'll presume other universities are like that too. I'm thinking of doing 3 level3 science subjects, focus on getting good marks in them, then possibly do 2 winter subjects (or just one, in which case i'd do an easy breadth in semester 2) and finish off 3 science level3 subjects in semester 2.

Hopefully that plan gives me a good GPA lol.

I did both glee singing and painting techniques, I'd say they both easy to do get a H1 in. Though I think glee singing was perhaps the easiest out of the two, because you don't need to sing well to succeed and it is minimal effort. On the other hand, I really enjoyed painting techniques, but you still had to put in a solid performance in your paintings to get a really good mark and painting is tedious.  It is actually fun taking alot of time to produce an artwork that you think you could never have. Even though I did significantly better in glee singing, but painting techniques was hands down, my favourite breadth subject, and have my paintings hung on my wall as a reminder of the good times i had

Thanks heaps Pup. This actually helped a lot.

I did not do any art subjects in high school, and definitely haven't done any in university. I am good at drawing, but suck at painting.  I am seriously considering doing glee singing, I'm going to try and convince my friend to do it with me.

Next semester I'm either going to Thinking Scientifically or Glee Singing. Actually thinking about it, I might even do Glee Singing in my 1st semester 3rd year.

Can I ask how much work load there is in it?

I've heard that you really only need to memorise a couple of songs, and that they randomly select you and you have to know the lyrics. I'm not sure how that's going to go because I don't know a lot of popular songs. Unless you count Gn'R as popular.

Also, would someone with 0, in so low that you could say negative, knowledge in music do well in that subject? like, literally 0.

It depends on what level of glee that you do. I did level 1. Workload is basically minimal, you have the weekly quizzes based on your lectures, that you could easily google the answers and or find the answers in the lectures notes. the lecturer requires you to memorise the lyrics of one song per week so be ready if you are asked to recite a line of that song, but that was pretty easy. I'd say you shouldn't have a problem, whether or not you have a music background. some of the songs we do are recent songs that have featured in the top 10, so you may be familiar with them.

Odilia ruined MCB.

Odilia (imo) is quite a good lecturer actually, her notes generally provide you with everything you need to know (that's why sometimes in MCB it feels like she's reading off her slides) and she's pretty helpful.

One time the Echo system in the Doherty failed and she pretty much video recorded a whole lecture on her iPhone haha.

Ahhh, so the level 1 glee and level 2 glee songs differ in difficulty?

Dammit, I didn't actually realise that. Thanks for that.

I really appreciate the advice.

EDIT: actually looking now, the subject codes are indeed different. dang

Hey guys I am in need of some advice :( (btw long time lurker first time poster)

i recently got my mark back from an assignment i handed in and i felt really good about it (definitely a h2 mark), and i was really confident about how I went about it. But when I got the mark back it said i failed and this is the first fail ive ever gotten at uni. It was worth 25% and Im really struggling for motivation about what i can do about it and in general. I tried contacting my tutor but they said there was nothing they could do. What should i do about this? Does anyone also know whether a fail on an assignment will go on your transcript or anything or if there will be a record of a failure anywhere? its just that i know my parents will be devastated if they ever knew about me failing since i have so many commitments outside of school.

Thanks in advance for any advice and sorry if im rambling on, its just that im really in a deep shock about this and cant even concentrate properly

First off that fail shouldn't come on your transcript at all... I believe its only if you fail the subject altogether. Secondly, remember that though it might be 25%, there is still another 75% left - you haven't said anything about the actual subject you are taking so I can't really say much on that part. Don't be afraid or think it's all over, there is still much more to go! Keep working and you won't have to worry!

The only difference between those two levels, is that level 2 glee comes with an extra assessment task, I think it's a song analysis (500 words) from what I remember. besides that everything is the same.

So what would Glee Singing be like as a Level 3 breadth? I was thinking of doing it at the end ._.

Glee singing level 3 has a 1500 word research assignment.

Sigh.. group assignments. My assignment for UNIB20007 was going so well - everyone was pitching in and we finished the written part of the assignment well in advance. As for the presentation... well no one else was prepared for our rehearsal yesterday and only tonight has the transcript been finalised (and it definitely could be better). In other words, we'll be winging it tomorrow having not been able to practice it beforehand. >_< I can only hope that the majority of our marks are awarded for the written component and that our tutor thinks kindly of our presentation. :/

I remember i did this subject last year, I let my group down with my oral presentation of my segment, (mumbled the whole way through), but our group still ended getting full marks for the group assignment!
