I should've taken the offer to do a b-psych+honours at la trobe when i had the chance. Now I'm going to spend the next three years trying to get a high gpa/wam. What have I done.
Well...on the plus side, I found that second semester of first year was more interesting than the first semester. Then I found that second year was better then first year. Maybe once I've finished third year I'll say the same (but right now second year seems like the winner of the two).
Anyway, MBB2 is a pretty reasonable subject (I presume you'll be taking it) in terms of what you'll have to do so that you do well, same with second sem. biology. I wouldn't be worrying too much (yet). Besides, second year in general has way more depth; first year is really just a taste of what's to come. By this I mean that in first year, they introduce lots of concepts but don't really elaborate much; by second year, you start to do things that are increasingly interrelated.
Take BCMB20002 for example: we started with protein structure and folding, then looked at enzyme kinetics (i.e., how proteins interact), then looked at how DNA and proteins are replicated and manufactured at a molecular level, then applied those topics for lipids and membranes, and finally for metabolism.
