Do you have any ideas on what I can do?

The only way to do these subjects is to do anatomy, physiology and biochem in sem 1 I think.

Or should I just ditch one of pathology or pharmacology and do immunology/cell biology or something??

Some feedback appreciated. And how is the rest of my plan? If you wouldnt mind giving me u opinion

It really depends. ANAT20006 and PHYS20008 should be taken together, if possible. PHRM20001 would go well with PHYS20008 but then that would mean your semester 2 becomes completely full and you have little room to change your mind, so perhaps having ANAT20006 and PHYS20008 in semester 1, and PHRM20001 in semester 2 is ultimately the better option. If you stick with PHYS20009 that will compensate and you'll have your nice complement in semester 2. You'll also have room for PATH20001 in semester 2. This means you'll need to take BCMB20002 in semester 1. However, as you can see, that then fills up your semester 1 and leaves no flexibility for more options either. You'll need to sit down and think about which health science disciplines you want to keep open and which ones you're happy to close off.

Thanks. So which health science options will I close off if I remove anything apart from anatomy, physiology and biochem. These three im keeping for sure. The other three I will need to make a decision on what I need to close off. At this stage im tossing up between pharm and path. What options does that close off if I remove either?

If you choose to take pharm in 2nd year over path, you close off path and vice versa.
If you remove RBP (reserach phys), you close off phys major (unless you do it in 3rd year concurrently in sem 1).

Hey Guys, what are your thoughts on doing research physiology (PHYS20009) and physiology (PHYS20008) in the same semester?
Is it possible? Harder? Easier?
Any thoughts welcome :)
Thankkss

Yeah, it looks like we'll have the new system for our cohort. :/

In all honesty it is much fairer to everyone and the randomisation is something they should do, but I understand why people would be annoyed about not being told about it earlier.

If I'm not mistaken the MD application process is undergoing a change for next year; my hunch is application limited to Melbourne Uni students only.

Tbh I think so too, kinda sucks though.

I thnk it was discussed in the previous pages of hte thread but it depends on the person.

Most people I've come across vouch for PHYS20008 in Sem 1 while doing PHYS20009 in Sem 2 - this is because PHYS20009 covers the Cardiovascular and Respiratory Practicals in the first 3-4 weeks whereas this is covered in PHYS20008 in Weeks 9-12.
As a result, someone like me who did both concurrently in the same semester (sem 2) struggled for the first several weeks.

In saying so, what I liked about doing them together was that by the time exam time came, I didn't really need to study for RBP as much because most the stuff from PHYS20008 carried over and was sufficient for the purpose of the exam.

In short - it varies from person to person, but for me I liked knocking 2 birds with 1 stone, even if it was tougher in the first few weeks of semester.

Good luck :)

Can I ask why you guys think that this is happening? Was there a document released or is it because you think they'll be following what Monash is doing?

And if these changes go through, would I be correct in assuming they would apply to people applying in say, three years time rather than next years applicants? Because it seems abit unfair in that people in other courses would be forced to transfer to have a chance at the MD program

I'm not usually one to speculate, but I think, much like Finders' move away from GEMSAS, it will be so that more people do their undergraduate degree at the same university as their graduate degree. Flinders allocates 25% of spots (I could be wrong on the precise figure, but it's somewhere around that vicinity) for students of other universities, and the remainder are for Flinders undergrads. That way, they effectively limit people's options, forcing them to do their undergrad at Flinders if they want a better chance at getting into postgrad. Students are a currency; more bums on seats = more funding. By saying, "you can only apply to postgrad MD if you've completed an undergrad degree with us," the university is looking to increase the number of students that it can attract.

In short, it's all about money. Now, I could be wrong entirely, but I don't think so. Why? Well, in a finite system, where there are only so many students graduating from high school each year, as well as a budget for higher education that seems to shrink to fit the needs of society (rather than grow), it is only inevitable that a university will impose conditions of entry and use its "prestige and/or other bullsh*t factor" to attract students that it would have otherwise "lost" to another university.

If that's the case, and only Melbourne graduates will be allowed to apply, it'll be interesting to see if the 'spin' they put on their decision is as laughable as their Melbourne Model justification  :P

Sums it up perfectly.

There is no link but people found an application form for MD 2017 entry on the portal somewhere, where you put in your GAMSAT ID and other details - hence people think they might be ditching GEMSAS and doing a Monash/Flinders. There is no official word, just speculation

This probably has to be some of the most gut-wrenching news I've heard all year. I'll be utterly shattered if it happens.
