I am going to go on another fuck you Melbourne rant.

Guaranteed CSP spots have no average whilst I still have to maintain 75%+ average to just for the privilege of paying 200k for a med degree.  :/

Just a quick question, how much more are the fees for a full fee med course compared to the CSP version? Considering I pay both upfront.

Thanks in advanced.

Just remember that Australia is comparatively egalitarian, I guess.  Could be much, MUCH worse if you were overseas...

A LOT.  Something like $150,000 more?  $160,000?

I disapprove in theory, in practice I don't think it will make much of a difference.

The old system was 99.9 + 75% average + pass interview = CSP and 99.0 + 75% average + pass interview = FFP

The new system is a bit more complicated, basically they created a new version of each course called "Chancellors Scholars" and if you get into that you get graduate entry guaranteed (no average etc.). If you want to apply for the MD, you WILL need to pass an interview, but it's held in December before you start rather than after 3 years. These degrees are all subject to supply/demand, so there's no set ATAR.

Thanks in advanced.

Full Fee will be ~50k a year for 200k total cost for the 4 year MD. FEE-HELP will loan you up to ~100k of that, so you'll need to borrow the rest at market prices.
CSP is ~8k a year, for a total cost of 32k. If you paid upfront, it'd be 20% off or ~26k

Do you think I have any chance regarding this statement Russ?

"Students with an ATAR below 99.90 may be considered depending on demand."

I applied with SEAS and have the same scholarship as the Chancellors Scholars Program students get.

There was the other thread about some med professors apparently saying that people with 99.85 are virtually guaranteed...

I sat GAMSAT last Friday as a trial anyway and am going to apply via the standard application process, but I would love to know how they decide who to allocate extra guaranteed CSP spots to if the demand doesn't meet the threshold.

As far as I know, SEAS isn't going to be considered for the Chancellor's Scholar program. You can call some faculty members if you want, you never know until you ask. I do have a suspicion it could be only for VCE students though, because otherwise they'd get a lot of people already in the course reapplying.

I've never seen that 99.85 thing, I have no idea what the cutoff will be (it's a very limited number of places though) but it'll entirely be based on demand because there is no "threshold" per se.

I have no idea why you sat GAMSATUK lol, but good luck for results

Thanks.  If I get time I might write a letter or go to the MDHS.

And  yeah, it ain't cheap but I wanted the practice.  I think it was definitely worth it.  I didn't do any study so my s1 and s2 scores won't be good, but these results actually could have counted for applications for 2014 entry...

Subject: DOM-Biomed Chancellor's Program
Hi, I was interested in the "Bachelor of Biomedicine (Chancellor’s Scholars’ Program)", in particular the entry requirements. I realise that there is no exact score yet because it is dependent upon demand, but what I wanted to know was whether there would be any special entry schemes for those from Underrepresented Schools and/or Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars? I have both, but I can't seem to find any info about whether they'd help to gain entry into this course. Thanks

--------

Dear Luke,

Thank you for your recent email to the Enquiries Management team in the Office of Admissions at the University of Melbourne.

To be considered eligible for entry into the Chancellor's Scholars' Program, students need to obtain a minimum ATAR score of 99.90. This applies to all students including kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars.

Students who are eligible and receive adjustments to their ATAR scores through the Access Melbourne Special Consideration scheme may be eligible for the Chancellor's Scholars' Program if thier adjusted increment is above 99.90. Students will not be informed of this until offers are released in mid January of 2012.

For further information regarding admissions, courses, selection, application procedures and fees, please visit the Future Students web site at http://www.futurestudents.unimelb.edu.au

Regards,

Sophie

Thanks Luke.

So judging from that email, they are giving bonus ATAR points for special consideration applications...

I think i'll find someone to talk to about this.

Yeah, looks like it. But it seems all most UMAT in the way that they "receive increments" for being awarded Access Melbourne, it still sounds exactly like supply vs demand. let's just say my hopes are slim without any KLD preference given, as I've only got underrep then :P

I don't have 200 000 dollars so I will still be slaving away with the books, thnx.
It didn't even change considerably though?  Aside from me still being allowed to claim it, nice touch for transfer students.
