I think in terms of question difficulty, it wasn't ridiculous - as in, most questions should have been doable by most of the state.
HOWEVER, as an exam, I found it pretty damn hard. I mean, I'm sure that most people would have been able to ace it if there was no time limit, but doing such a long paper (that is pretty much filled with 2-3-4 mark questions and pretty much none of those easy 1-mark filler questions that VCAA was known for) within timed conditions has gotta be challenging for 99% of the state. Of course you'll still get your share of maths geniuses who are able to score full marks easily, but to the average HARDWORKING methods student, it would have been quite difficult to maintain composure and finish the exam without random mistakes.
I pity the batch of 2012. Methods is definitely getting harder, so I shudder to think what sort of ridiculous exam they would get next year :S
