Your parents probably heard that from some other curry parent who wants to brag about how their kid got a Grad position at Toyota Finance.

In reality, their kid spent all his time at Matheson Library just to get away from his parents, checked out all the curry girls that walked past him, all the while his parents thought he was slaving away at The Financial Review and The Economist. He also probably crammed 12 weeks worth of lectures into the day before his exam.

If it's unclear what my point is, I dont think you need to keep learning to get a job, you need decent marks which would be helped by studying ahead of time :P

LOL! This made my day hahahahah! I am a curry too and this represents our culture and community so fucking well!!!

Thankyou so much for all the help everyone ! It is so so appreciated and I hope all of you get some good karma :')

No worries, hardly an essay

By "Apparently you have to keep learning if you want a job", do you mean studying in the holidays? Or do you refer to working in a job and continual learning and/or professional development that may take place in that environment?

I'm gonna assume the former, I don't think it's necessary in any degree to study during the holidays. Holidays should be enjoyed, because when you have a "real job" you probably won't get months off. Having said that, in my experience, doing some light reading towards the end of the break does help. I do this because I don't want to go from 0 to 100 studying/hr in Week 1, I'd rather build up to it with 2-3 weeks of light reading. This also familiarises me with the course content and gives me a heads-up for which aspects of the semester may need more or less work.

As for your parents, can't really help there. I'm fortunate to have very chill parents haha

Hope that helps, take it easy, but not too easy! :)

Thanks pi ! I think my parents want me to get an overview of the course and what it involves and all that jazz as well. Otherwise they think it will be beneficial to get ahead hahaha.

Hahaha, this is so accurate ! Cheers for the rock solid advice ;)

If anything you should be spending the holidays doing something away from uni books. Work on a project, join an interest group etc and you'll find that having those things to talk about during an interview is going to be a lot more useful then "Oh, I've been reading the Australian Financial Review since 1st year. I even sacrificed my winter break of my first ever university holidays to stay in a library to get ahead."

Thanks mate ! Appreciate the advice :)

enjoy your sem break!! you could pretend to go uni to study but get away from them instead. i thought you were gonna try transferring to business in semester 2, what happened?

I was thinking about it but when I started to seriously consider transferring, id missed the deadline by a few days. So I decided to stay here until the end of the year.

just get some books and magazines you want to read and stick on the cover of business books/journals so it looks like you're studying when you read them.

you're happy and your parents are happy.

LOL.

Seconded. Curry community is actually fkd in every way, I swear -.-

One last question; does anyone have anything constructive I could do during the holidays ? I'm just killing time right now so any suggestions are welcome :')

To next semester? There's no real official date, it's really up to the professor.

Obviously they'll be up before class starts (most of the time....a few times they haven't for me). I would say its rare to see them up now, as in the last exam week/week after exams. Sometimes they'll put up last years but its more for them to slightly change to pretend they did all the work this year.

Whats your definition of constructive? Time enjoyed isn't necessarily time wasted. I think it would be misguided to structure a life around the sole focus of a career. I know people like that and they're dull as hell, you don't want to be one of those people.

Anything you've always wanted to try or been interested in but never had the time? Well you got the time now. Learn (or start to) a new skill or activity. Read or watch something interesting, learn a bit more. Or you know, spend it on a 30 day hangover, i think we've all been there, right?

Anything more than lying in bed all day doing nothing haha !

I agree with you about the whole enjoying life thing. I am definitely of the mindset that there's more to life than studying.

Hm maybe I should find some hobbies or interests. It makes things a little hard when you don't have any transport or money as well so I'm struggling a little.

You should keep them all until you know if you passed all of your units or not.

Hey,

These holidays I'm going to be attending a program that Monash is running. I'm wondering if Robert Blackwood Hall is hard to find when entering Monash Uni? I'll be arriving from the Wellington Road bus exchange - which looks to be close to Monash.

Thanks

Nah pretty easy!

Easiest (not the quickest though!) way is to exit the Wellington Rd bus loop onto Ancaro Imparo way and turn right and walk until you hit Scenic Blvd (a left turn, so right angles). Walk down the Blvd and the hall will be obvious on your left :)

When you receive an email saying that you have failed your exam massively but still manage to pass the unit by 1%, I can't believe how lucky I am, so undeserved.
