What are all the essential skills and knowledge required for methods 3/4 (apart from by hand factorising?)

(3x)/(x+4)-(5/x)

Does anyone know how to simplify this?
I tried finding a common factor of x and x+4 but wasn't sure how to do it
Thanks

There's a wide variety. You will learn to recognise which are important by doing lots of practise.

The easiest way to find a common factor is to multiply the two numbers (or expressions) together. What's a common factor of 5 and 3? 5 x 3 = 15
So, your common factor would be x(x+4).

Hope this helps :)

Thanks VanillaRice

Since the methods study design changed in 2016, will looking at the past sacs of my school from 2015 and previous years be pointless?

A decent chunk of the study design is the same, so it’s still worthwhile to look at past sacs. Just know what questions you should skip cause they’re outside the study design.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get worked solutions for the Cambridge 3/4 methods textbook anywhere?

If that's the textbook you're using at school, your teacher should have a copy :)

Do you have the e-book code? If so, you should be able to find them on the e-book (at the bottom of each exercise there is a little solutions icon with a tick, click that).

Tbh, we will have no idea - it's completely up to your teacher. You'll have to ask them.

Is it alright to use worked solutions for a question if you're unsure of how to do it? Even after you've attempted it

Looking at the worked solutions is fine if you're stuck on the question, but try to understand not just what they did, but why they did it. Knowing the steps to solving a question / how to solve a question will help you do the next question you get stuck on :)

Also remember, if you're stuck on a question or are unsure why they did a certain step, you can always ask here :)
