Does anyone know how they nominate for the Australian Student Prize, i.e. the criteria?

I wish, apparently on raw scores but it's not confirmed...also could be so many in a particular school/region?

From what I've heard, an aggregate is calculated the same was as is done by VCAA, but with raw scores (that is, top 4 summed, and then 10% of the next two added together). The top ~130 or so students in Victoria (depending on how many there are Australia wide vs. Victoria) are awarded an Australian Student Prize.

I have also heard that "school recommendation" is a thing, but I'm not sure this is true.
VCE 2010-2011:
English | Philosophy | Latin | Chemistry | Physics | Methods | UMEP Philosophy
ATAR: 99.95

2012-2014: BSc (Chemistry/Philosophy) @ UniMelb

Currently taking students for summer chemistry and physics tutoring! PM for details.

I still don't understand why raw scores are used; obviously scaling is used for a reason to calculate ATAR?

I agree, logically it doesn't make much sense as it doesn't take into account the varying difficulty of subjects, but hey it's the Australian Government and I don't think they're known for their logic.

It completely illogical to use raw scores. Are they really saying that a 47 in HHD is the same as 47 in french?

Thats disgraceful.

50 in latin vs 50 in food?

Considering no one got a 50 in latin, a bit unfair no?

Last year there were 132 recipients from Victoria for the ASP.  It's based on Victoria's share of all Year 12. Included in that number are the maths and other Olympiad team members.  All IB candidates with 45 score and VCE students with 99.95 are also automatically included.

If it were based on ATAR then the cut-off would be around 99.80.

As far as I have read it is best 4 study scores - raw scores plus 10% of next 2 subjects including extension subjects.  English doesn't have to be in the top 4.  From the people I know who have received them, you need to have an average top 4  score of about 47- 48+.
