English
Rank 3/50 (moderate cohort)
SACS: around 87% average
Exam :8/9/8
Will this enough for over 40 SS?

I thought it was a fair exam but what can you do... there is always going to be ~2-4 percent of people getting full marks. and that is what determines your score in the end. So not acing exam 1 pretty much removes possibilities for anything 47+ because of this, unless of course you get 100 on exam 2 but we all know that is possible but unlikely. But as my dad would say: Just do your best.

47+ requires 118/120 on an easy year, 39 + 79 will get you it, not acing E1 doesn't mean anything, plenty of talented students drop a mark because of some careless error.

Hey assuming sacs scale to full marks, how many marks can I lose /120 to get above 45 for specialist?
(I know it depends on the year but can someone give me a ballpark figure  :'(

Also do you think its possible to get 49/50 with 117/118?
Most years, 118 will get you 49 :) apart from 2008 iirc no years got you 50 with 118
hey,
Methods
GA1: A (in a strong cohort)
GA2: 36/40
GA3: 74-71(worst case scenario/80
Approximately what would that yield?

Also, i screwed up my specialist exam 1 32-34/40, would i still be able to do a 34+? SACs are around an A average.
Thanks!  :)

A+ cutoffs are the worst... My SACs are 95 methods rank 4 and 87 spech rank 2(should scale up as pretty much everyone rank 10+ got 36+/40). I hope the cutoffs are more like 2008 and not at all like last year.

Because only ~250 people land in the A+ cutoff and if you are in the A+ cutoff your scaled study score is 50+.
It should be difficult to get a 50 in any subject, and it is in specialist, especially at the top end.

When reading these cutoff reports you have to keep in mind this subject scales by 12 xD

just to comment on this: student at my school last year got 39 and 77 and got a 47.sacs scaled to full. it is not quite as hard as you are making out - that being said, 116 is extremely difficult both in terms of understanding and physically being able to sit in your exams and not fuck up

also does which exam you lose each mark on matter?
or is (for example) 30/40 and 80/80 the same as 40/40 and 70/80?

kinda does matter which exam you lose marks on because each exam score is calculated through z scores therefore in most cases 39/40 & 80/80 beats 40/40 and 79/80 as there is a greater standard deviation of exam scores in exam 2 than exam 1 meaning that raw exam scores in exam 1 are more closer together and raw exam scores on exam 2 are spread - the best explanation is that exam 2 is statistically more difficult than exam 1.

Hahaha yeah the scaling is a tad overpowered but it is pretty awesome to get a 40 raw--> All dem bragging rights haha especially for spech. Getting a 50 in spech is pretty much a matter of luck, like further, because everyone who get 40+ is good enough to get the 50, it is only that they didn't on the day of the exam. I guess that is why spech scales so much as the cohort is so competitive and 40->51 and 50->55

so how does weighting come into play here? study design says paper 1 is 22% and paper 2 is 44%.
 thanks for the response mate!

GA2: 33-34/40

What score do i need for a 35 plus study score, even a 40 raw?

I'm in a similar scenario. Can anyone answer? Thanks

Chem

Roughly 75/100 for both GA1 & GA2
Ranked about 6th in a cohort of 16, fairly average, not too strong nor weak.
GA3: 110-115/120 (based on my performance on past papers)
