Hmm... Be careful with that sort of approach. Schools tend to review subject selection based on those exam results. If you don't want a hard time, I'd still try my best with them. I still studied for all my Unit 2 exams last year, even though I had a Year 12 subject, and I still did fine in both. It's not as bad as you think. Also, you'll minimise your homework load for the holidays - one of the key components of head start homework is to go over your Unit 2 exam and address weaknesses (although you should still probably do a little bit of this regardless).

Yeah the incentive to study for me is pretty much knowing that studying for unit 2 exams is going to save me heaps of time over the summer to study for my year 12 subjects!

My plan for the summer:

English:
* Read A Christmas Carol twice
* Read The Lot once
* Start writing text-responses & maybe a few short-stories for context
* Language Analysis review

Chemistry:
* Review units 1/2 material
* Go over all of unit 3
* Start writing notes, answering questions in textbook for unit 3.

Specialist:
* Go over all of the relevant GMA chapters
* Start the first 4 chapters of the Specialist Maths textbook.

Methods:
* Revise units 1/2 material
* Start the first 8 chapters.

^^ That'll get me through the summer!

tbh I'm not sure if there's much point going over GMA. I spent today doing complex numbers from the 3/4 textbook and it explains it from the ground up.

Oh okay then :) I'll probably just skim through a FEW questions. Plus, I'm doing it through distance Ed and they give you everything from the basis because they don't expect you to have completed GMA.

Thanks for that psyxwar (: Btw you changed your name again! Was METAPOD a phase?

Are you using Essentials? 8 chapters of Maths Quest (which I use) is like most of the book =o

I had a really similar Summer timetable to you. It's freaky  :P
And to be honest, I regret doing that much work in December/January because:
* I was really confident I'd get it all done. Didn't happen. Especially when I figured that some spesh questions took 45min to get my head around. So in the course of 2hours, I did like 3 spesh questions occasionally. It wasn't that I was not productive, but rather - that's seriously how long it took.
* I am extremely tired at the moment, and wish I did not use up like a 1/4 of my energy at the start of the year. Believe when I say - year 12 is an extremely longgg year. You'd want to start serious study early Jan to mid Jan (if you want to be ahead of course).
Moral of story - don't set this much work for yourself.

hahaha I don't think you want to see my timetable then...

then again, I suppose people are different. I become unmotivated unless I work consistently.

^^ Yeah this is me! I actually really feel motivated when I work. I also reckon when you want to do the work, its much different to FORCING yourself to do the work. I'm actually eager to do the work, so its not like I've bestowed upon me this enormous amount of work that I am forcing myself to do. On the contrary, it'll really get me into the right mindframe (I believe personally) for year 12. I know that this worked for me for both Further & Bio when I did work over the summer for both subjects.

^ okay guys - whatever floats your boat. But just be careful.

by the way Yacoubb: those were two 3/4 subjects. You are now dealing with 4 challenging 3/4s.

I really don't want to throw a wet blanket on your enthusiasm ( I really don't, believe me), but I'm just telling you all this because this was EXACTLY me like a year ago. So yeah. We're not the same person, I know, but I guess being aware of the consequences doesn't hurt. So avoid doing anything drastic (like studying for 12 hours a day) during the summer hols.

I intend to study like 5 hours every week in Jan.  shouldnt be too exhausting.

I'd heed the warnings of sugerminted. I regret starting extremely early to year 11. By march I was absolutely burnt out and it took me months to get back on track.

5 hours a week is hardly anything considering most of it would be from sitting down one afternoon every week.

I actually wonder, seeing that you did very well in your 3/4 subjects, how did it affect you going into Year 12. So you got a 50 and a high 40, did that make you more motivated and determined? was that contributing to your enthusiasm? Did it give you confidence throughout the year when you needed it? (other students feel free to reply about your experiences with receiving scores and going into year 12).

Haha, the fact that you're doing 7 subjects, sounds like things were really hard for you.

I don't really know. I mean, I knew that year 12 was the ultimate hurdle I guess. I don't think I dwelled on these scores too much, but I guess it was a confidence booster. It made me feel like I can do whatever I put my mind to, I guess. That said, I'm really not sure how well I'm doing this year, so I don't think I'm the best person to ask about all this. I reckon you should ask some other year 12s who are doing amazingly on this forum.

My main point was just to tell you guys what I believed my 'mistake' was, just so it's not repeated.
