Are you guys going to write essays tomorrow?

I didn't write anything today. Only did a methods exam 2 to relax myself. Is it bad to do English the day before the exam?

I'm just writing a language analysis tonight; if I don't get my (fake)  anecdotes sorted out tonight then I'll do a couple of paragraphs of those tomorrow for Context. Aside from that, I'm too worried about burning out to do much >.<

In the same boat as fareseru; my teacher said today that my essays were great aside from a couple of small things, and I'm like.. "okay, great as in 7 or great as in 10?". Man.
2013 : Philosophy (31) | VCE VET Hospitality (Kitchen Operations) (31)

2014 : Food Tech (40) | Accounting (35) | Art (39) | Visual Communication Design (40) | English (38) [hopefully!!]

You'd be surprised. There have been plenty of whack essays on beauty. I'm going to study some advertisers of the war poems tomorrow and if its on some weird question then I'll just throw my hands up in the air during the exam and give up.

As there are so many texts, do they all have to be relative in difficulty?
Can you give me an example on a prompt on "beauty", i actually haven't come across one. VCAA are boosting their difficulty for War poems, in 2012, the prompt were very easy. Not so easy in 2013.

This sums up my feelings exactly. I went through a few things with my teacher today, and he said "you'll write very well on Wednesday and all your hard work will pay off." I responded with "hopefully" and he said "don't hope, because you'll do well". Yeah, nice little lunch time pep talk, haha.

I feel like I should know that I have done all I can, but I also feel like there's always more that could have been done. I really just want to get over 40+ with English, because I feel like that would justify all the extra work I've done (and it would make up for all the extra work I've caused my teacher this year).

Me too :( let's hope we can ALL do well!!

there was one on a practice exam my teacher gave us that was something along the lines of 'these poems are both evocatively beautiful and horrifying. discuss.' i actually really liked that prompt tbh, it invited a lot of interesting ideas.
tbh i think i'd actually do better with the harder prompts than an easy one. some prompts are so ridiculously simple (like 'owen's poems target those who propagate war') that i don't know how you would even pull a full length essay out of them.

legit though war poems is so broad that there are sooo many possible prompts they could give us, it's a nightmare to prepare for

Figured I'd post these prompts here for you guys to have a look at :)

The War Poems

i. “Dulce et Decorum est
Pro patria mori.”
Do Owen's poems convince us that it is noble to die for one’s country?

OR

ii. ‘Despite images of despair and destruction, Owen’s poetry celebrates comradeship.’
Discuss.

How sad - I actually miss Methods because of how much English I've done. I can't wait to finish English!

weird. 2012 was pretty easy but I don't really feel like I'd have that much to talk about. I'm not really sure if you can link things like 'compassion' to the language choices of owen expressing his pity for the soldiers through his brutal raw imagery in his poems. If I did 2013 I could have nailed both of them so easily.

I did these on my practice SAC and did pretty bad I think I got 13/20 for memory for 'i.' I think if I get a question like 'nobility' or some shit where you actually have to hone in on these specific words, that will be the end of me. I was just talking about his use of imagery removes the facade of nobility in death, exposing the old die. and some other shit like in death, many religious elements are removed that remove all nobility. shit like that

yeah I kinda shit myself when I first saw that prompt haha, but I ended up being able to manipulate it so half of my ideas were stuff I'd previously written about and half was new - which will probs be my strategy for the exam. hopefully the prompts we get aren't complete out of left field :/

yeah I think the 2012 were too simple. I dont think I could have actually written a full length essay for those. I'm hoping for 2013 level difficulty, or maybe a tiny bit harder, so it invites some interesting ideas without being impossible. Fingers crossed VCAA isn't too sadistic :P

edit: actually 2012 was probably really simple cos it was the first year of war poems being on the text list. chances are we'll get some harder stuff as we near the end of its time on the list

Meh, I've written minimal. Maybe three or four of each, but it really doesn't matter that much. The best thing to do is just sit down with an unseen prompt, write out three-four paragraph ideas and a contention. Do some analyses if you struggle with those, they've never been a problem for me so I don't look at many.

Wait you are the one that panicked about lote wayyyy back, next minute bam, 50.
Trust me stop stressing, if you think about it that way there's always "more".
In all honesty I've done nothing in the past week and..... I'm those who you will be competiting with so don't even worry. You are just stressing your self out.
