That's fine. I know this is a terrible thing to say, but sometimes I feel as if I'm disadvantaged for not being disadvantaged. I mean, I get that there are people who have really had it tough throughout their lives and throughout Year 12, but I feel that there's probably enough people who apply for SEAS that probably shouldn't. Anyway, that's a discussion for another time.

That's a pretty selfish thing to say.

Wtf Stick is correct... What's with all the negativity?

It's bullshit how you can apply for SEAS with some bullshit story and then instead of having to get 99 to get into biomedicine at Melbourne, you can just pull off a 96 and get in.

Although yes, some people may be 'disadvantaged', I sometimes feel as though the 'bonus' they're given is blown out of proportion compared to their actual 'disadvantage'.

And let's say you go to a public school and you feel as though you're at a 'disadvantage' compared to say, my school or Melbourne High. That's the way it should be. With Melbourne High, you've had to put in the work to be selected to that school, and with my school, you've had to fork out the fees to go there.

But yes, I'll rephrase what Stick is saying.
SEAS is blown out of proportion.
Good luck getting SEAS without the appropriate documentation and evidence. You can't just spin shit and qualify.

People, think before you downvote. Stick raises an interesting point. Youth Allowance is one measure of suitability for SEAS. If people who don't really need it receive it (as is the case with me), this makes it an unsuitable criteria on which to base SEAS. In that case, Stick is at a legitimate disadvantage. I don't know the stats about who gets Youth Allowance, but if there are those who do not need it receiving it, there is an issue.

Well, you went to Assumption, so you'll understand this.
Fees would be similar to my school.

At my school, there have been recent times where a kid somehow applied for SEAS with a financial disadvantage.

How does that work? Hm?

The fact that you can think and justify the comment "I feel as if I'm disadvantaged for not being disadvantaged" is an appropriate comment to make is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

You should feel lucky that you're not disadvantaged in any way and it shouldn't matter to you what others do with the system. Run your own race be thankful for what you have.

So much this. People just assume it's easy to get SEAS or something.

From memory, being in receipt of FTB:A is sufficient to qualify for financial disadvantage, no matter how much you receive, which is inappropriate and not ideal.

I can assure you that your school costs a lot more than Assumption, which may seemingly strengthen your argument. However, there are ways that families pay for their child's education. A lot of parents may pay off fees for their whole life. It all depends on how much your family earns a year and how they may affect you. The statistics behind it all prove the eligibility, there is no way that this "kid' got SEAS if he came from a non-disadvantaged background, it doesn't work like that.
