Hi Bluegirl,

Let us first recall the definition of human development. Perhaps try writing it out from memory before revealing the spoiler (there's no time for revision like the present! ;)).

Spoiler
Human development refers to creating an environment in which people can reach their full potential, and lead productive and creative lives in accord with their needs and interests. It is about expanding people's choices and enhancing capabilities (the range of things that people can be and do); access to knowledge, health and a decent standard of living; and participating in life of their community, and decisions affecting lives.

In questions regarding x's impact on human development (in this case, obesity in developing countries), it's important to refer to aspects of the definition above. For example, for obesity, you could say something like (apologies for the very, very rough job - I'm sure you could do much better):

Spoiler
Obesity is likely to lead to a reduction in physical health, as the body and its systems will likely be less effective due to the increased amount of fat in the body, and one is less likely to be able to perform physical tasks as efficiently when obese. Reduced physical health (as a result of obesity) means that those in developing countries will be less likely to reach their full potential as, for example, they may have a reduced health-adjusted life expectancy and greater levels of morbidity. This may be due to the fact that obesity can lead to numerous non-communicable diseases and illnesses, such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and some kinds of cancer. This ill-health would result in limited choices and capabilities, and would render one less likely to actively participate in their community (due, for example, to greater difficulty in movement). Consequently, obesity in developing countries is likely to lead to reduced access to health and a decent standard of living. All of these factors contribute to a probable outcome of reduced human development in developing countries due to obesity.

It doesn't really matter which part(s) of the human definition you pull apart, so long as you refer to it and then justify why those aspects are relevant. Again, the above isn't a great response, but I hope it helped in regard to response structure, at least.

All the best.  :)

EDIT: And in hindsight, I would probably tailor it more specifically to developing countries, as opposed to developed countries.
Hey Joseph, just wondering, did you lose any marks in the exams for our 50 in health?

Thanks

Any questions related to pathways towards studying dentistry or physiotherapy? Gimmi a PM!

Hi Rod, hope you are well.

I'm afraid I have no idea how many marks I dropped in the exam. I'd suggest that I didn't 'full mark' it - from what I've heard, doing so is rather tricky in Health. I never ordered a statement of marks, so I'm not too sure. However, I did feel confident coming out of the exam.

During the year, I scored 100% on a few of the SACs and dropped some marks here and there during the year. But keep in mind that marks during the year, as I'm sure you know, are not really comparable across situations.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

All the best.  :)

I did in my SAC, looks neater and easier to distinguish if you are required to use any of the areas later on in the exam.

Pretty sure it's FSANZ but I don't think it's on the study design anymore.
Someone confirm? :P

It's not on the study design. Only subject you need to know this for now is Food Tech

I'm just going through notes, and doing whatever revision questions I can find on them. If I forget something, I'll look it up, and write the answer a couple times, then attempt the question again in a few days, see how much I can remember. Guess there's really no quick way  :(

Flashcards. Write out the info in dot points on one side and then test yourself.
I break the info up into key sections. So for NHPAs one card may be "reasons dementia was selected" or for MDGs "reasons why goal 2 is important" instead of trying to cram all the info onto one card.

Which startegic priorities do we use ?
In VCAA summary of changes it says
Promote healthy eating
Improve mental health
Prevent harm from alcohol
Prevent tobacco use
Encourage regular physical activity

But my teacher says to use the old one which is
Reduce smoking
Improve nutrition
Reducing harm from alcohol
Increase physical activity
Increase social and economical participation
Reducing harms from uv exposure

...
There pretty much the same  but which one should I stick to?

Rule of thumb:

To effectively play the game that is VCE, do as VCAA tells you. VCAA is the puppet master, and you are the puppet. Generally, the more compliant the puppet, the greater the results. Don't make your strings too tight - just give them what they want.

Go by VCAA's study design and summary of changes.

The first ones. We were told if you use the second lot you have listed on the exam or SAC you will score 0
