Because the number of spots in a tutorial are limited and if you're too late, bad luck, register for another time, unlike lectures.

Makes sense. Thanks for that! :)

Actually all single classes (i.e lectures) are automatically registered for so that's a bonus

So, we don't get to decide which lecture slot we want to attend? It's already pre-determined?
And on Monday, when we register, we just have to add tutes and workshops- working around our pre registered lectures?

:)

Thanks.

@ shenz0r

thank you!

Well if there is only one lecture per day then you don't get to choose obviously.

Hey guys, I'm planning my first university semester timetable recently. Is it possible to do two back-to-back lectures, one in Richard Berry, the other in Law Building? (i.e. is the ten minute break enough for travelling between these two buildings? Cause on the map they are sort of on two different ends of the campus...) Much thanks if someone could answer my question>w<

Yep, you'll have to walk briskly but it's possible (I've done it.)

Seems that two of my subjects have their lecture at the exact same time, and both only have 1 lecture.
Does that mean I have to swap my semesters/subjects around, or will there be more lecture times come up on Monday morning?

Both subjects should have their lectures recorded. This means you can attend one lecture in person and then listen to the other lecture recording at home.

Is there a timetable planner available? (please link me!)

Also, could someone clarify the differences between Lectures, Seminars, Workshops, Tutorials and Practicals?
Not all subjects have these, right?

For example, BIOL10004 only contains a 180min workshop, and three 60min lectures? per week?

Thanks!

How long does it take to go from MSD-B117 Threatre (for intro microeconomics) to The Spot B01(Copland Threatre) (for principles of business law)?

Hey all, I'm a bit confused about the workshops for Arts Foundation subjects, specifically Power. The handbook says that there is "a 2-hour skills workshop in weeks 1, 2 and 3 or weeks 4, 5 and 6 or weeks 7, 8 and 9." Is that one per week, for a three-week period of your choice?
And when choosing these workshops, do we have to do so individually? On the timetable there are about 50 Workshop 1s, but according to the page during weeks 16-18.

https://sws.unimelb.edu.au/2015/

Lecture: Sit in a big hall for an hour and watch/listen to the lecturer present new content.
Seminar: (Not as sure) Combined lecture followed by a tutorial.
Tutorials: Room with about 15 other students where you do questions based on last weeks material under the guidance of a tutor.
Workshop/Practical: Similar to a tutorial but there might be a practical component, building something etc.

How long does it take to go from MSD-B117 Threatre (for intro microeconomics) to The Spot B01(Copland Threatre) (for principles of business law)?
Depends how fast you are, 10 minutes easily but normally less.

The timetable counts in weeks from the start of the year so you'll need to adjust it. You'll only need to choose one workshop and one tutorial from what I can tell.

Could you tell me about how to read class/events? For example:
BIOL10004/U/1/SM1/L01/01
subject code / unit / semester / ???

Also, not all subjects would have...say...Tutes right? Biol doesn't seem to have any.

Biol doesn't have tutes but it does have a laboratory/workshop
/L01/01
/the number of the lecture ( lecture 1, 2, 3 etc, you have to attend all of them)/the class (theres many classes for one lecture, you can choose which one you go to)

Tutorials, workshops and pracs should be something like
t01/03, w01/02 and p01/01 etc

Is it alright to do tutorial 1 (12pm-1pm) before I do lecture 2 (1:15pm-2:15pm) for QM1? Is it also possible for me to get to Alan Gilbert 101 to Old Arts-122(PLT) within the 15 minutes? Thanks
