Here's my attempt at annotating a text
I hope its okay :D

Hey another world! I had a look at your text annotation (you deleted and reposted right? It's all good just checking that it didn't disappear on me?)  ;D

Okay, so this is again not something that HSC students will be assessed on in exams, but it could form part of in school assessments (as I imagine this is). The point being that this will be a little more subjective feedback, take it or leave it as you will  ;D

Straight up, I'm assuming you spotted all the techniques. I had peeks around and all looks good on the surface, so I'm assuming you've done this correctly and that the techniques are correctly identified.

Your annotation is effective!! I love the contextual information at the start, supplements it well, this would make a great study resource!  ;D

I'd say a few things to improve it a little. First, this is a very rich speech with techniques. There is a lot more than just figurative language, allusions and repetition in there. I'd try to create a richer key to allow the identification of more techniques under broader headings (EG - Figurative Language, Imagery, Allusions, Repetition, etc)

Making the headings richer and broader will therefore mean you have lots of very different techniques under a single heading. For example. figurative language might encompass metaphors, similes, personification, etc. So, I'd next to at least some of the most important techniques, add an additional level of detail. Not only could this include the more specific technique, but also the link between the quote/technique and the concept! For example, you could pick something you highlighted green and add a label like so:

Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.
- Metaphor
- Links need for racial equality with primal human instinct of "thirst"

You could even add multiple techniques to the most important quotes. You don't need to do this for everything you highlighted mind you, just the important quotes based on your interpretation!  :D

These extra details could also include audience impact btw  ;D these extra labels could be a massive pain layout wise; I'd suggest if you do this that you move the speech into one column on the right hand side of each page, and add your annotations on the left (or vice versa)  :)

So in summary, you have a great idea here! The general annotation works well. Personally, I'm just looking for a little more specific detail for some important quotes as chosen by you. Again, take this with a grain of salt because I've never been assessed on something like this before  ;D

thank you for your help ^o^
I also wanted to ask for our next English task we have to respond to this question

I was wondering what approach would be best to answer this question and what it means by 'constructed'.
So far I've read the novel and know that it is a autobiography.

Discuss how 'Unpolished Gem' has been constructed to present a particular perspective.

Hey again! That question is very open ended, and so I really can't say a particular approach because there are literally infinitely many! Certainly, your response would pick a specific perspective and construct paragraphs explaining how this perspective is formed in different ways.

As for "constructed," it is referring to how the composer has chosen techniques to create their text in a specific way. The composer, ultimately, make decisions for a reason. Your job in the response will be to look at WHY these particular decisions were made. Essentially, constructed could be replaced with written, or filmed, or anything more appropriate to the specific text. It is literally just a reference to the fact that the composer created the text, and constructed it for a purpose.

I hope this helps!  ;D

Hey! Big question, definitely something that can be very troublesome, a few bits of advice:

- Read the questions before you read the text, this way your reading can immediately be used to look for appropriate evidence. Reading chews time, so you want to make it as efficient as possible by knowing exactly the sorts of things you are looking for
- Give yourself a few extra minutes (probably taken from the Creative section) if you need it
- Practice responses and have them marked (possibly by us?  ;))
- Know how much you need to earn certain amounts of marks: Don't write a whole page for 2 marks, for example. Equally, don't write 2 sentences for 5 marks. No intros or conclusions, only body paragraph style responses.
- Be very explicit in answering the questions, rephrase it directly into your explanations wherever possible, leave no doubt that you've hit your mark

I've attempted at writing a response but Im not sure whether my approach is right?
For techniques could they be language techniques and textual techniques?

Discuss how Unpolished Gem has been constructed to present a particular perspective.

‘Unpolished Gem’ by Alice Pung utilizes colloquial and informal language to establish the tone of familiarity and friendliness to convey the outgoing perspective of a typical australian.

Definitely! Techniques encompasses all those sorts of things, all the choices made by the composer in order to present a particular perspective, including manipulation of language, form, etc. What is the difference between what you are calling language and textual techniques?

The sentence you presented looks like its on the right track! You give a technique and show what perspective it portrays, that's the idea!  ;D

Below the space where you type your reply, there is an "Attachments and Other Options Button" (see below). Click it, then you'll see a "Choose File" button  ;D

EDIT: You can also just copy paste your entire essay into the post itself if that is easier  ;D

IF I'm doing 1 essay then I'll do copy and paste but if I'm doing more than 1 I'll do a few at a time

What would be a good approach to strcture the paragraphs? Would a intro be required?
I also wanted to ask I am kind of confused on what perspectives there can be and how to identify them?
Perspective is a key aspect of this question therefore, I wanted to understand it before trying to approach the question

For Module C (if your prescribed text was brave new world) would the following be good related texts; Animal farm, 1984 (I believe this is a prescribed text so I don't know whether or not it is a great related text to use) or V for vendetta. I would like to do a related text which has a lot of analysis on the internet (i.e. it is on sparknotes)

hello I am doing citizen kane for module B right now and i am struggling to write an essay for the practice question,

"Welles’s Citizen Kane has been described as ‘a confronting portrayal of vanity and loss in a changing world.’ To what extent does this perspective align with your understanding of Citizen Kane?
In your response, make detailed reference to your prescribed text.

I dont know how to structure my paragraphs. Like should I talk about one theme e.g. materialism, greed, corruption etc.  Also, for the 'confronting portrayal of vanity and loss in a changing world' part, what values or ideas should i talk about? any help will be great because im really stuck. Thanks!

Hey,
I am having trouble with beginning a module C essay on the following question:
How do composers use form an language to explore the way political ideologies impact on an individual lives and broader society? Refer to Two poems you have studied and one related text.
We are doing W. H. Auden's Poems and my ORT is The Rabbits
i am completely unsure of how to structure the introduction and how to order the body paragraphs and what these body paragraphs should include?
like should i do 6 body paragraphs (one for poem 1, then poem 2, then ORT and repeat)
also do we have to compare the ORT with the prescribed poems?

Sorry or all the questions
and Thank You!
