I don't know whether it will be, but that is the one poem where if they nominate it I will literally have nothing to write :( I'm not too worried about memorising the quotes, more so what the poem is actually saying :/ I find that one the most confusing, especially because I was away when we did it in class.

heres a summary of it http://www.shmoop.com/hollow-men/summary.html hope that helps, i don't understand rhapsody or preludes

Thanks! I can help a bit with rhapsody :) Here are a couple of paragraphs I wrote in a practice essay:
ON MODERNITY: Through symbolism and metaphor, Eliot effectively explains to readers the impact of modernity upon their lives and relationships, as evident through the metaphor of “a broken spring in a factory yard, /Rust that clings to the form that the strength has left.” The spring symbolizes our world, with the rust of modernity promoting its decay. Thus, the reader is presented with an austere assessment of society for them to further their understanding of their own – in Eliot’s opinion, unfulfilling – role within it.
ON ISOLATION: Within Rhapsody, an isolated atmosphere is presented through the running motif of time, in order to convey to the reader, the narrator’s isolation, while he explores the streets alone at night. Eliot’s use of personification, such as the lamp who “sputtered” and “muttered,” represents humanity’s breakdown in communication, whereby ironically the inanimate objects are the most alive of figures within Rhapsody. Therefore, through Prufrock and Rhapsody Eliot effectively discusses the impact of isolation upon the relationship between an individual and society, through presenting it as a barrier inhibiting connection.

Just wondering, should we include a definition of the key terms of the essay question in the intro of our essay? eg. defining discovery

My teacher keeps telling me i have to do this but it doesn't seem very sophisticated and i am not sure how to make it flow smoothly in the intro if i did do a definition.

Sssssrr

I honestly think it would be unnecessary. Though, if you do choose to do it, I'd suggest not to give anything like a formal definition but to define it in such a way that fits the arguments you put forward in your essay. Merely use it as a supporting mechanism for your response. I would slip this in around the first sentence of your introduction, or wherever you make an initial statement addressing the question.

Ideally, around 3-4 minutes. It really depends on how in-depth you are making your conclusion, and how much of your content you are looking to address. You'd potentially be able to pull it off in about 2 minutes - but I'd suggest a bit more time to make sure you round off your response nicely!

Hello! Just a quick question, for the 5/6 marker in comprehension, do we need to compare the two texts?
