The memorise vs don't memorise argument doesn't have a single answer, it very much depends on you. Personally, I never memorised, buts lots of people do

I agree. If you know the content and analysis inside out then you wouldn't really need to memorise chunks of essays.

How do I study for english I can't, whenever I open my doc to work I just instantly do something else it's just so dreading to do it's taking parts of my soul away legit it's killing me. I can't just turn off all technology etc stuff like that because I won't do work anyway it's just killing me I study the most for english yet you don't even get rewarded for hard work in this subject unlike maths. I don't get what they want from you to get good marks, like no matter what I try they just want something else I'd rather study for some other subjects but english takes all my time...

1. Don't worry, everyone feels this way about English, at least at some point. It's so hard to see the benefits of your work, I know exactly what you mean. But trust that somewhere down the line it will click, I promise, and once it does it will get immensely easier.
2. Check out this guide on studying for Advanced.
3. Work in smaller chunks - So, don't try and write an essay. Try and write a paragraph. I used to work on the short answer sections for English more than the essays because I could get back to YouTube sooner, ahaha
4. Read exemplars - It's like the whole "watch it to be good at it thing." It works - You need to read a 20/20 to be able to get a 20/20 yourself. I broke down one of my 20/20 essays written under exam conditions, you can give it a read here
5. Timetable yourself properly to make sure you are investing proportionate amounts of time into everything - If English is the one you are struggling with the most, it should get the most time, but not all of it!

Yeah but we can't submit drafts to teacher so idk how to improve so it's really annoying how we can only submit one draft per module

This forum is a great place to submit em Rack up the posts and you're set. I've been bombarding my teacher with drafts here but if you can't find a tutor or friend.

As for structure I like to go by

Intro
Prescribed
Related
Combined
Conclusion

OR

Intro
Concept 1 / Integrated
Concept 2 / Integrated
Concept 3 / Integrated
Conclusion

Of course you can bend it however you like but that's a general structure that should be roughly 1000 words.

There's a few ways you could approach this! Perhaps you could go through a somewhat chronological approach in the order of establishing "truths", challenging truths, then re-examining value, as a result? Or, you could look at the different challenges different characters/people face in examining truths. Does it depend on their willingness to be receptive to discoveries? Does it depend on the unexpected/planned nature of discovery? If you can, be comparative with your two texts in that although you should examine the same thesis for both about the idea of being "invited to examine" - consider why the plots are not the same? Who comes to a harsher realisation - and why?

I'm sorry for the rather simplistic and to most english teachers, annoying question, but why do we study English at school?

I do not wish to start an argument, but rather gain insight into the reasoning behind the compulsory subject.
