I was wondering for a question like this 'how has the use of language features been effective in shaping your response to one of the texts?'

What would be the best way to write what your response is? Can a response be anything?

Pretty much! That's an extremely broad question ;D

Hello,
How can I find motivation to work well in English?
I'm doing quite well in my other subjects as i'm motivated to work and go ahead of my class.
For English, I do the work that i'm required to do but I just don't take out some time to work as I find it extremely dull and this is it reflected in my poor rank..
Any suggestions?

Perhaps you can find motivation in your poor rank to improve? I know that when you're really acing a subject, it's really comfortable to study for it because you feel good that you know your stuff, it's a positive time, etc. But in order to "play the game" you need to focus on your weaknesses. It's going to be more beneficial to move from 28th to 10th rank in English, than it will be for you to move from 3rd to 2nd in Science, for example. And it's not just about ranks - it's about improving your marks!

It's difficult when you just aren't enjoying a subject, getting out of that rut is really difficult. Jake wrote a guide about dealing with English when it really isn't your thing. So, you're not alone!

If you don't enjoy your texts, choose related texts you enjoy so you can at least look forward to this small aspect of the course. Set yourself some goals, even if they're just small, and celebrate them when you achieve them! It sounds so petty, but acknowledging the progress you make is really important for your own motivation.

hey guys!!
I have a Mod C task coming up on Art of Travel and I'm really struggling so far. Could someone have a read of my intro to just see if it makes sense? The task is to an unseen question but I'm doing this is to a past HSC question. Also if anyone has done Art of Travel before, could you maybe briefly give a rundown of concepts that would be good to argue whenever writing about the Art of Travel in an essay? Thanks so much in advance!!
"People are shaped by their landscapes" To what extent does your study support this?

Landscapes, whether real, imagined or remembered, have a significant impact on the individual which experiences them. These experiences can evoke memories and emotions that play a pivotal role in forming one’s character in later life. Within his memoir, “The Art of Travel”, Alain De Botton expresses the view that “people are shaped by their landscape” to a somewhat extent as he explores the reciprocal nature between the traveller and their destination, placing emphasis on the notion that an individual's experience of landscape is refracted through the subjectivity of the traveller. This is similarly displayed within Tim Winton’s short story “Big World” where in which two teenage boys undergo a bildungsroman to understand the gap between their ideals and reality within their own lives. Both texts support the notion that “people are shaped by their landscape” through their depictions of individuals and their responses to the landscapes which they have experienced.

I'll give it a shot :D Hopefully someone who's done the text is able to shed some light on it after.

In your intro I don't feel that you should explore what the text is specifically about and more the concepts within. You can mention something about the reciprocal nature of X within the text which in turn X instead. It gives the marker a clearer indication of the ideas you want to explore. You should be exploring specific textual detail later in your paragraphs with quotes anyway :) Your explanation of Tim Winton's Big World is quite lacking, you haven't linked any concepts in it and have just told me the plot, not what you want in an intro. I recall studying the text but I'm afraid to provide any misleading advice so I'll let someone else do that.

Overall, you need to focus on the concepts of the rubric in your intro and link it to your texts. You should refrain from retelling, especially in the intro and rather establish an argument which you will follow up later.

Pardon any bad advice I give, feel free to criticise and ask questions. I'm only a student too ahah

yep, definitely see where your coming from there. I literally have no idea of the concepts in Art of Travel so no surprise that none can be found in the intro hahaha. But thanks so much for your feedback!!

Hey Maria! Wales has given you some great feedback - I agree that you need a stronger focus on the concepts (hopefully someone who has studied it can help you out there!). When you do that, you also want to focus on how techniques are used to present those concepts. This is a representation module, and though you hint at that idea of representation already (words like depiction do this) I think you could make it a more central aspect of your intro! :)

Hey I'm really struggling to come up with an idea for my AOS creative piece. I had written one and used it for my half yearly exam but really don't think it is any good  :-\ :-\ I have decided to start again with a completely new idea but am experiencing full time writers block :( Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I gave this advice to someone in another thread but, see if you can find a scene from a good movie, book, show, anime you enjoy and try adapt that. It's a start :)

Feel free to post your ideas here and we can help develop them for you.

If you scroll down a bit in Elyse's Ultimate Guide to Creative Writing, you'll find some nifty little Creative writing prompts! They might help too (lots of great advice in that guide) ;D
