Hi,
Does anyone have any tips or starting points on writing a Mod C paragraph on "Malala's UN Speech"?

Thanks.

Hi everyone, I've just finished my first week of Trials, including my two English papers. They were really gross and I feel like I didn't do the best I could've. How do I improve my essay writing speed? I struggled in writing the three module essays in two hours.

Also- how do I recover and smash it out in the actual HSC, techniques and quotes in hand? Thanks

Hey, just wondering if we could shorten text names (e.g. KRIII and LFR) when referring throughout the essay, obviously after introducing the texts properly in the introduction.
TIA

I'd suggest asking your teachers. Make sure to ask the head teacher if possible (my class teacher told me I could abbreviate... ended up getting roasted in the essay feedback for abbreviating title names authors and such...)

Hi there,
I have an assessment due on Wednesday and my question is "Politics illustrates the ultimate powerlessness of ordinary people". I also have to do a visual representation and a presentation that addresses this question to what extent, in my prescribed texts which are "O What is That Sound..." and "Epitaph of a Tyrant" by W.H. Auden and a related text which is "The Napalm Girl" image by Nick Ut.
I've done my speech for the presentation but I'm not really sure how to integrate my visual representation into it. Would somebody be able to help?
Thanks heaps, Katie.

Both.
I tried to rewrite the perspective. Would this be better?
Inspired by the image of Voyager 1 on February 14, 1990, Carl Sagan’s ‘Pale Blue Dot’ can be read as reflective of a scientist’s perspective towards the potential the advancement of space research can have to improve Earth; a valuable yet vulnerable resource.

Yes! Your wording here is much more sophisticated and clear! :)
I'm doing speeches as well and struggled with this too initially, I've only done 4/7 but these are what I think are the biggest overarching themes, hope it helps a bit!

It is still winter at home
-Unity
-National Identity
-Peace/conflict
-overcoming adversity --> can link this to national identity

Redfern address
-unity
-national identity
-peace/conflict
-overcoming adversity

Australian identity
-National identity
-Peace/conflict
-overcoming adversity

Speech to the Knesset
-Unity
-Peace/conflict
-overcoming adversity

Thanks so much for sharing this Snew! I'm sure a lot of students will appreciate this!
Oh I'm so glad I'm not going crazy then haha! but thank you!!! that is such a good way of looking at it, it makes a lot more sense now! Just with the idea of literary representation, what would you suggest a physical or emotional representation is that you could refer to? or would this become more of like the impact of the representation? If that makes sense?

Sorry, I'm not quite following your question! So much representation :P Do you mean, in talking about representation, can we talk about the way emotions are represented as being important to the relationship between people and landscapes/politics?

Hey Sarah! An absolutely incredible woman from Victoria who got a perfect score in her English exam, named Lauren, wrote a guide on exactly this! Speed features in there! At the same time, I want to direct you to this feature about being okay with disappointments and overcoming them in order to pick yourself up and keep on going for the next round. I'm sorry your papers were less than desirable :( The best advice I can give is for now, be kind to yourself, to whatever you think you need to do. If you think you need to give yourself a break for a minute, then do that. If you think it's best that you keep potting along with your study, then so be it. But, when you get your trial results back, it is crucial that you take on the information your teachers give back to you. One, you could be asked these very same questions again in the HSC, so you're best bet is taking the feedback really seriously, and coming back to ask for more feedback if you're not satisfied that you know what to improve on yet. Please check back with us when you get your results, we'll happily work through it with you!

After the initial introduction, I shortened to these :) In saying that, I did notice in the notes from the marking centre...I think from the year 2015, that they said to avoid excessively long abbreviations. So while KRIII is fine, for example, Go Back To Where You Came From might be best shortened to "Go Back" instead of 'GBTWYCF" - or at least this is how I interpreted the notes from the marking centre :)

This quote uses the second person narration - this is what I would most pressingly talk about. It also uses the past tense, so this might be important to your analysis, referring to a past time, depending on your angle. Also, it creates imagery. I'm struggling to find more, or be more concise without knowing what you want to draw from it, but hopefully this helps :)

Hey Katie! What's your thesis going to be? Are you presenting a powerpoint behind you, or are you just submitting a hard copy still visual for your teacher to look at while you're presenting? :)

Hey Elyse, thank you for replying to my first post.
My teacher doesn't want us to do a PowerPoint presentation but a singular visual piece.
My thesis mainly covers how the texts reveal the relationship between politics and ordinary people and also how they give the reader an understanding of different events, personalities and perspectives.

hiya everyone!
My paper 1 trial is on monday and I need someone to please clear something up. Do 2 markers need 2 techniques and do 3 markers need 3 techniques? Basically, some people have said that the amount of marks is the amount of technqiues needed but I've heard some people say other things and I'm just really confused two days before the exam. Also, does anyone have tips for the five markers, I usually can't seem to get above a 2 even though I cram techniques like nothing else in. Any help would be much appeciated! Thank you!

Hello, I have an oral presentation assignment in English coming up later which involves choosing two texts (eg. TV shows, films, novels, short stories, poems) on a topic of satire and comedy (e.g election of Donald trump, totalitarianism (it cannot be on sexism, classism or racism).
I have to examine and analyse the perspectives communicated in those texts, how those perspectives are communicated (techniques), and evaluate how effectively they are conveyed and come to develop a conclusion about the perspectives, those texts and their contexts (thesis statement).
Does anyone have a suggestion of texts?

Hi :)

I have a question in regards to Module B, Hamlet. How would I answer an essay question when it goes on to ask 'How is this statement revealed through the dramatic structure of the play?'
I don't understand what the dramatic structure entails.

Thank youu !!!! :)

Hello!
I have my trials on next week and I am thinking of using Tim Winton's Time and Tide as my related text for AOS (with the prescribed text being Robert Gray's poems). I am also thinking of using it for my related text for Module C - Representing People and Landscapes (with the prescribed text, Art of Travel).
Do you think this text is ok to use in the essays?
Also, do you think it is alright to have the same related text? Would it be better to have separate related texts?
Thank you!
