hello hello i'm jumping in :) what does everyone think about whether or not it matters what university you go to? I've received a scholarship for a university that is much less prestigious than other universities.. does it matter?
Nope. They care about you having your required qualification, not what university you go to. If you can show that you are an outstanding student in the less prestigious university (through experience, connections, volunteering and just your degree and what not) then it doesn't matter.

That being said though, on the contrary you aren't obliged to keep your scholarship offer. I know of at least two people who have turned down offers

Absolutely agree with this. I am one of those people, but I turned down a scholarship because I got a better one which gave me better opportunities  ;D

Go to the university that feels the best for you. If you get a scholarship and you like the campus and their course structure, go for it, congratulations!! There are plenty of things to consider (facilities, course structure, teachers, student reviews, teacher to student ratios, student life, convenience, accomodation, etc) and you prioritise them how you like, but prestige should definitely not be on that list, a Bachelor's Degree is a Bachelor's Degree  ;D

Do any of you guys still play games when you're in uni? How busy is unit for you all? (if you don't mind me asking)

By the way Jamon, I will try to reply to your response on the other page ASAP

Me no not really, but that doesn't mean nobody does. I know there's a League of Legends society at UNSW for starters.

How do you guys get motivated? Like, I'm desperate to do well in the HSC, I can only do 2-3 hours of work a day and then I just procrastinate the rest of the day... no matter what I do!! What are actually applicable tips for not procrastinating?

For me, it was a matter of eye on the prize. And just the will to beat everyone at my school. I needed my ATAR to get into my degree, and I knew if I didn't work hard enough to get it, then all would be lost.

Have you made a binding timetable yet? You need make a timetable that you will force yourself to follow (it works, I felt pressured by my own timetable) that's realistic (has breaks as well as designated study times), is not excessive (not burning yourself out) and can juggle multiple subjects in an appropriate manner. Heck I even designated times for me to have my shower.

It's not about just naturally being motivated necessarily. It's about forcing yourself to be motivated by having an objective.

Hey Lauradf36! Jake wrote an article on the common forms of procrastination which might be worth a read for you  ;)

Motivation is a really tough thing, because everyone will draw motivation from different places. For me, I was motivated by my ATAR goals (as high as I could before September, 96+ after September),  and my girlfriend, because she studied a lot and so I pretty much had to as well  ;) it is up to you to find what motivates you. An ATAR goal? Need to beat a sibling or an annoying school friend?

The fact is, you are nearly there! The few hours a day you put in now will be so worth it in the long run  ;D

I have two tips: One, stick to a timetable!! Having a timetable of when/what you are studying is much less likely to result in procrastination than just winging it. I wrote an article on developing a timetable here!

As well as this, remove the sources of your procrastination! On FB a lot? Get a website blocker. Tempted by television shows? Unplug it, make it harder for yourself to remove yourself from the work. Turn off notifications on your phone, etc etc. If you remove your sources of distraction, you'll be less likely to procrastinate.

Oh, and take breaks! Go for a run or have a quick nap or clean up the house or read a book, or whatever. Give your brain frequent breaks to recharge. If you treat your brain well, you can get more hours out of it!  ;D

This includes getting IP banned from AN if you have atar notes addiction syndrome lol. But in all seriousness, there is a thread for this. Limit your time that you spend on forums as time flies! (I know from personal experience). However, 1 hr study deserves a 15 minute break. Do your FB and AN posting then :p

Here are some links for you: http://www.law.unsw.edu.au/future-students/undergraduate/law-admission-test-lat
http://www.law.unsw.edu.au/LAT-FAQ

I'm not 100% sure on what LAT is because I don't plan to do law in the future

Anyways, are there any prerequisites for law? (just curious)

And how was everyone's day today?

If you're interested you can search UNSW Arc and see the 100+ societies there. There's obviously stuff like law soc actuarial soc maths soc etc but also tea/coffee appreciation society and Pokemon society to name a few

LAT functions like UMAT; it also gets considered if you choose to apply for law. Generally they consider 95+ATAR with your LAT

UMAT focuses on extensive general ability whereas LAT focused on your capability in making two original, sustained compositions on the spot

Let's just get this cleared up. NO degree has prerequisites yet

Closest to prerequisite is USyd intending to introduce them for maths
