Does anyone know how exactly the English papers are marked?

I know they are out of 45 and 60 marks each (is that what raw marks are? :o), so how do you get a mark /100?

Thanks in advance :)

I am reasonably sure they scale the total back to 100, but they might just scale Paper 1 back to 40. I can't recall, I'll investigate (unless someone else knows!) ;D

Hey so with the essay I had a thesis saying that - the type of motivation was irrelevant, since the desire to discover will always bring about transformative discoveries. (Honestly wrote it better just then- and I didn't finish ;( ) is that a valid point?

@Everyone that is worried about the essay question:

Ideally, it would have been best to base your thesis off the relationship between the three aspects given and transformation. But if you didn't, and still incorporated those three aspects somewhere in your essay, you will not lose a huge number of marks. Remember for tomorrow though to try and target all parts of the question provided in your response :)

The essay I had written (pre-prepared) was almost exactly the same as the exam question itself, minus the 'motivation' aspect, which didn't link to any of my texts, as there wasn't necessarily a motivation for the persona's in the texts, but rather the tranformation they experienced (negative/positive) was influenced by their willingness to discover and therefore transform in perspective. So in my thesis I manouevred the idea of motivation (curiosity, necessity, wonder) into willingness instead... will that cost me marks?

Hey guys,

Im pretty worried about the creative because i am not too sure as to whether I used the stimulus corrrectly. I am sure I represented the complex nature of discovery however. So, I used stimulus 2 to show that at one point during the story although my character was influenced by a discovery it didnt have a far-reaching impact on him. I used this as central element throughout my story and towards the end I used this stimulus as a catalyst for the character to experience a new discovery, however unlike the stimulus, I made this discovery a bit more positive and transformative. My question is - will I be penalised or screwed for not using the stimulus throughout the story as I defintely used the stimulus and used it as a central element and catalyst for new discoveries, however the new discovery was transformative rather than bleak at the ending. Thanks.

My timing for the exam was terrible.

I spent too long on the first section as the mango poem was really tough to analyze. ( I didnt even finish the 6 marker)
Then I spent too long on my creative and didnt finish that. (4 pages - I slighty touched on discovery) - Is it fine if you incooporated the stimulas literally?
And I only just managed to do 3 pages (1 page intro and 1 page - prescribed and a page on related text)  - Even though I memorised everything.

So it seems my plan on attacking the exam was all wrong. I should of done the essay first and worked my way down.

What should i focus on tonight for Paper 2?

Same here. A lot of people recommended to answer Section I first for ‘assurance’ but I guess that only works for people who are good with analysing unseen texts on the spot, lol. The last text really threw me off, it was so convoluted (in terms of finding techniques)!
As for Paper 2 strategies, I’m no state ranker like Emily or anything but I’d suggest reading over your essays and planning a few “linking phrases” based on the rubrics of each module. At least that’s how I would approach it :)

Ok, stressing now. I realised I referred to "Where? What? Where?" (Text 3) as " White Sands: Experiences from the Outside World". Will I lose marks???

Oh darn. I guess im not the only one!

Im trying tonight to memorise all my quotes/techniques/decriptions of quotes for all the three modules. (Im using the palm cards as my main help to memorise them)

In terms of linking statements, what do you mean? Do you think I could do 3 practise essays tonight?

For the creative, i used stimulus 2 - "discovery of something new can trick us into believing it has the power to change everything". My prepared creative was about a man struggling with science overshadowing religion, but later realising both have benefits and can coexist.

Would this fit the stimulus? The discover mentioned in the stimulus in my creative was the discovery of scientific advancements, while the actual discovery was the mans realisation both have benefits, so yea just slightly worried

You decide that! Think carefully about your trial results and how you can build on them. What were your weaknesses then? And you noticed today that you felt like your approach was wrong, so think about your approach for tomorrow (based on how you performed in trials, largely) and think about the best possible way for you to approach it! :)
