I gotta say... I struggled with it. I don't know my mind was asleep or if the exam was actually quite hard, but I found myself unsure how to approach a handful of questions. Didn't arrive at a definitive answer for a few, but at-least displayed some method.

Oh well. Onto exam 2!

That's exactly how I felt. The exam wasn't hard but I struggled to get to a definitive answer( minus those questions that I clearly couldn't do because of my silly mistakes).

Is having a goal of 37-42 too far fetched if I lost about 10 marks on Exam 1 but score around mid A+ in Exam 2 ?

Hey man, I know you did spesh at decv. Neale Woods or Georgia Gourous? Don’t worry too much about exam 1. It is done and dusted. For exam 2 l, just aim to do your best. It shouldn’t be hard if you got 17/20 for the multichoice questions at the exam seminar.

Hey, Another fellow DECV Student. Do reckon our SAC marks would scale up ? According to the box plots they gave us after the SACs, our cohort seemed pretty strong. The SACs weren't usually hard (except the last one, it was terrible for me) but is there still a scope for scaling up ?

My solutions...

https://lookaside.fbsbx.com/file/2017%20Specialist%20Maths%20Exam%201%20-%20Solutions.pdf?token=AWwvPXullYJxsAoBRsoWdFAXF0ODgli1bPZmx-pThH10Eo1EsmcqJn1RTQR2sf7NKHBGs4Hc-kQSobq1sOjLjgbN-xwJFCCUY8JS-5PMOOxue07_JYj7Xss_6qITV7JGMaH9BwlwlY6j9m1s1f1ews1S4U-oFWrgIuUGTIbE-7pomw

Not sure on the vectors solution yet... "a" may have to be positive... I'm in class teaching, so I don't have time to check...

It's not that a has to be positive, but that one of the solutions is extraneous (in that if you sub it in, cos theta becomes negative half rather than positive half) I think. I forget which solution I rejected though

Does the domain in question 6 worth 1 or 2 marks??

3 marks, I reckon one is for the proper derivative, one is for recognising the domain of the original function, and one more for stating the correct domain by not including the original endpoints. At least I hope, because then I might get two marks instead of losing two

I think I lost around 5 marks on Paper 1. What sort of exam 2 score do I need to get a 43 study score? I'm currently rank 1/40 in an average school. Thanks for the help!

Here's a copy of my solutions - they are mostly the same as Worm's, although I've approached some of the questions a bit differently, so I thought it might be worth uploading anyway in case anyone was interested :)

RE Q5: I agree with JOHNSMITH II, and I've checked the solutions by substituting back in

EDIT: I'm not too sure about the answer for Q4: my answer assumes the 68%-95%-99.7% rule, but others have said 0.023 could be the answer.

EDIT2: Also let me know if there's anything you don't agree with - these answers aren't 100% :)

EDIT3: Answer to question 4 has been revised - thanks to MathMethdz99-R
