I'll be around for free help / advice / consultation too!

Keep January 4th free. Just need to be able to get to the city (the front of State Library) and you're eligible to come along! Tutors, students, whatever... anyone can come!

Sign up to this meetup if you're interested! It's completely free!

http://www.meetup.com/VCE-Study-Group/

If this goes well, it'll become monthly. Our vision is that it becomes like "The Hive" except for VCE people (The Hive is for entrepreneurs). Just a meet up for people to mutually gain from each other's presence (networking!), collaborate, etc.

Moved to VCE (and related) Businesses, as this is advertising a Merspi event.

This is for anyone BTW. Hoping to provide some simple value by setting a reliable/trusted hub for VCE people to go-to!

ATM, it will be the founders of Merspi merely hosting the event (paying costs, i.e: for meetup.com, time for promotion), but in the future it will be taken over by a community who can't be stopped from meeting up on a frequent basis! ;)

Name suggestions are welcome, as "VCE Study Group" is not anywhere as catchy as thehive.

Not allowed to discuss about things I'm not allowed to discuss. Also was threatened.

Well this is getting quite childish.

Well this is getting quite childish.

It was because I implied that enwiabe was getting a bit paranoid - and adding that AppleXY was demoted from Global Moderator because he has a Merspi link in his signature.

I remarked that AppleXY has only logged into Merspi twice in two months.

I read the chat logs, and enwiabe thinks they can be interpreted in a different way, and he could have clarified that publically, but that's okay.

mathsonline.com.au is a good resource, but its ties with McDonalds shouldn't relegate it to a position here. It should be posted in the Maths forum.

Anyway, on topic, got circa 10 RSVPs so far (from distributed sources, such as FB, PM, e-mail and Meetup!)

Looking forward to see you guys there -- and provide some value for you guys! Dissenters are missing out :)

Are you sure that is the reason?

I am going to clear the air once, and once only. Collin, your duplicity is astounding. You're using the rather sad occasion of a moderator being demoted to attack me? I think this is shamefully opportunistic.

I went into greater detail to explain the reasons surrounding Prav's demotion, given your closeness to him and what I felt was a genuine care for him. For you to then air them in a public setting shows a complete lack of integrity on your part, especially when you provided no rebuttal whatsoever and seemed to take my reasons as valid. Of course I'm not going to make demotions public, especially when Prav has given so much to VN over the years. Why would I want to publically humiliate a valued past contributor as you have?

I deleted your remarks because they were derogatory and unnecessary. I really did not want it to come to this. As for your event. You said it yourself, there is no such thing as a free lunch. Why would Merspi willingly run such an event at a loss? Paying for costs? Volunteering your free time? Clearly, the benefit you are reaping in return for your costs is a chance to market Merspi to more students. This is a marketing maneouvre, and that's fine by me. So long as it's on the relevant board. Notice that I did not edit your original post, nor discourage anybody from going or anything of the sort. I moved it to the place where it was appropriate. Businesses are to advertise their services on the VCE (and related) Businesses sub-board. I hope that I have cleared up for readers this situation, and I am most apologetic that it came to this. Unfortunately, I cannot anticipate underhanded attempts at political point scoring as they come.

There's no such thing as a free lunch means that someone foots the bill in the end.

It can be free for individuals within the system, but the cost is spread somewhere. We are bearing the costs for this.

amirite?

Youre trying to get people to use your product. Advertising. In a place against the rules of the board.
Also, you may be footing the bill this time but its clearly somewhat of an investment. You hope the people who attend this time will come back as paying consumers the next. Clearly your intentions are to create a business, not a non-profit organisation. Dont act as though youre holding this meet-up out of the goodness of your heart because there is no chance you'd be doing it if there wasnt a chance of profiting financially.

BRB sticking nose into other peoples businesses more :P

Monetise or not (economics makes no assumptions about peoples intentions, nor are they obvious), we can only gain attention by providing a service that people benefit from (capitalism is about producing value, etc.).

How do you know Merspi isn't just a sandbox project for learning and showcasing? It has no ads or product to sell at the moment, besides possibly my tutoring (which there is no link to from anywhere -- my website has a blank page).

The only reason why I advertise on VCENotes is because there is an audience for something different. I've seen it transform bad-mannered forumites into well-mannered social learners!

Sorry Collin... but I still think Daniel's point stands.
So does Doboman's.
