how does doing a double major in the same degree fare against a double degree?

person X's problem:
"omg i'm so upset, i loved doing french and spanish this year as vce subjects and i want to continue them so bad, and i also absolutely loved biology and chemistry - whatever am i to do! i love them both so much and i have no idea how my life will turn out so i can't just choose one :( "

solution:
"bachelor of arts/bachelor of science"
major in french&physiology, minors in chemistry&spanish

:P

problem solved...

Broaden your knowledge base, therefore increasing the value you can add from the eyes of an employer. And, of course, interest.

Besides pure interest?

I would say interest is the key factor.

From most people I've spoken too, and my own reasons, it's either interest or if you know what you want to do, sometimes a double is necessary. For instance, Arts/Teaching. I can't teach with just a teaching degree [for secondary], I need an arts background [or science or IT or whatever.]

Medicine/Law: medical law, mistreatment of patients etc.
If you want to be a medical lawyer there's a law subject later on in the degree (I think 3rd or 4th year) which can be taken as an elective at most universities, which specialises in this, so no, you won't need a MBBS with that.

lawer by day, doctor by night?
awesome :)
