I don't think you had to state which one was which, but I did so anyway for good measure

I am pretty certain it asked which one is that of Australopithicus...

Lmao, that sounds like the question word for word. And I agree that it didn't convey that we needed to make any differentiation between species but I still did it - not well worded. If they removed the Species X and Y then it would have been clearer.

They didn't put any room for it the spuds...  Should have been a box saying species ___

I'll forgive them though.

Cant really blame people who didnt mention it though, i thought the exam same thing in my own exam, it was worded in such a way it sounded like you didnt really need to write it.... VCAA have clear as mud wording half the time.

This is just for me personally but all the VCAA exams i did, i didnt lose marks because i didnt know the biology, i lost marks cause the questions weren't clear, that said, this years paper wasnt too bad in that regard i guess....

oh yea that was kinda weird had to think about it, but i wrote something like the shell thinkness/thiness would remain relatively similar as the crabs cannot migrate into the northern shore. The only way for the shells to change would be for a new predator to become present...

Remain relatively constant unless a new selection pressure arises that specifically selects for or against certain shell thicknesses.

i said it would either remain the same or decrease as it wasn't needed in their environment and there were no pressures present (the crabs) to make them need it ... unless a pressure was introduced.

ah, I wrote something like:
assuming that there was migration of the southern mussels to the northern mussel population it would increase the frequency of thick shelled northern mussels...
I kept changing my mind about whether the northern mussels would be affected, but yeah that's what I ended up with.

I said that the overlap zone may have changes in allele frequencies but that the upper region would stay relatively similar so long as there were no changes in selection pressures. I hope they reward good biological thinking for this question.
