Haha every person in our person had to ask the examiners individually how to fill out the front of the book.

Thought the Hamlet passages were decent, quite a few references to my ultimate meaning of him understand he had to find his own purpose in life, rejecting feminity and embracing masculinity.

D.H. Lawrence, well you can't really get bad passages, like The Ladybird passages, wasn't so keen on the Captain's Doll.

Finished just in time.

Overall, pretty happy :)

haha this is the same with mine!.. i found it pretty funny that they didnt just say it at the beginning instead of going to every person individually (asking how to fill it out)

i found the emma passages lacked...depth.
each eluded to certain themes/concerns but overall i wasn't super happy about the passages, still felt okay in the end though. :)

Hamlet and Emma passages were decent :)

okay, everyone is saying this.
I found both pretty crap, I threw the exam.
And I didn't mention Hamlet's madness..... I never really liked this topic.

Personally, I thought the Hamlet passages were fantastic - Quintessence of Dust is on par with a soliloquy, and has the Denmark artifice of court stuff around it to boot.  Closet scene was one of my teacher's top picks (incidentally, Quintessence of Dust was the other's :p), and Hamlet the Dane was always a big possibility for the third passage.

Emma on the other hand was...interesting.  Not bad, but not amazing either.  First passage was kind of limited in scope (although there was stuff), second passage I've done before and found kind of annoying, and third passage was like a lamer version of last year's.  Still, manageable, but I had a bit of a mental blank for about a minute whilst trying to start.

Quote
I felt so sorry for the Hamlet and Emma people, which was the majority of my school. I skimmed their passages in reading time just cause I was curious and thought 'wow... I'm glad I'm not them!' Cant believe the Hamlet kids didn't get a soliloquy, and am thanking my lucky stars I didn't focus on it (I almost did).

Which school do you go to?  As I said before, Quintessence of Dust is practically a soliloquy in itself, and I thought the passages in general were fairly rich...

Yea, I did the second passage for Emma too! It came up like TWICE in practice passages I did, one was by VATE wtf.

An d I think everybody was thinking of EZ when Quintessence of Dust came up.

The examiner perhaps might find it refreshing considering that Hamlet almost invariably lends itself towards a madness discussion, as long as its a plausible interpretation you are under no obligation to discuss his "madness". I didn't discuss it in detail, as mine was a discussion of corruption :)

Okay.
I talked about Hamlet and his interaction with his "Other", the development of such, and how this leads Hamlet to be the most celebrated representation of general humanity in the play.

The Captain's Doll passage was horrible! Fox and Ladybird were ok i guess. My D.H Lawrence one was horrible, and it was meant to be the one that got me the marks :/ ahh
how long should the essays generally be? i wrote 3 pages on D.H lawrence and 2 and half on Hedda- is that too short :s

Depends how big your writing is.

The word count advised in the exam booklet is "400-1000 words", and it also says that "word count is not a major consideration". But obviously high-scoring ones will be close to, if not over, the 1000 mark. Having said that, there are some pro kids who write close to the 1400-1500 word mark, and from memory mavisgibbons wrote a gargantuan essay and a huge essay last year - 13 pages and 10 pages.. o.0

Personally I only wrote 900 and 700 words for Hamlet and Frankenstein respectively - but I'm not aiming for anything spectacular..

That is correct I am a freak.
If I feel like procrastinating this essay to a major extent later I will post a picture of the size of my handwriting so you can all feel comfortable/stressed.

My supervisor didn't know how to fill in the script book. :|

i wrote 3.5 pgs for antigone and 2pgs for larkin

cant believe i didnt finish one, i wanted a good score so bad

How did you find Larkin?

I was happy, only because whitsun wasn't on there. In the last few days I learnt to like aubade, so that was good. And I predicted Home is so Sad. :)

Ah, same here, she wouldn't tell us how to fill in the details either!
