Yes. Some subjects run in summer/winter only so they're termed intensives

Not really optional; it counts as a subject, so you do one less later. Depending on the subject, they can run for anywhere from 5-7 weeks (save for camp-style ones such as wine and geology) and are taught at a much faster rate. You can do them because you've failed a subject and need to repeat it, because you need to get a prerequisite out of the way, because you're bored in summer, because it's only offered in summer, because you want to finish a semester early, etc.

You turn up to the uni and the faculty (eg science/arts/commerce etc) tell you all about the course, what you'll need to do, what subjects etc.

You get given a time to visit the uni and speak to a subject advisor if you need to. Academic Advice Day is something you really should go to, but if you're comfortable enrolling in subjects from home then you don't really need to come in again for your session

ok cooool, definitely will go - so we can speak with the advisor on the day? wouldnt there be so many people who are seeing them so it'll be difficult..?

Depending on what time you're given you might be able to speak to them on the day or you might have to come back a couple of days later. That's to stop them getting overloaded (although you can probably sneak in and get seen anyway)

depends a little on your course too...prettttty pointless if you're doing biomed for instance since you literally have 1 subject which is completely free choice and otherwise you are streamed arbitrarily or based on vce subjects.

i reckon pretty good to discuss with current uni students for other degrees though (before AAD) since they often have a better view of subjects.
