Questions about ANU

Fenner's got a rep as being one of the less social colleges. Apparently it's improved in the last couple of years, but even so I don't really know anyone from there who didn't try to get out as soon as they could...

apparently everyone is close there, and the social aspect is fine. Its just the travel that annoys people.

Hi just wanted to ask. You know how Burgmann have early offers before christmas? What do you need to do apply for an early offer? Besides putting it as your first prefence in uni acc and uac? Thanks!

Tempted to put ANU down somewhere. The college life looks like fun. The courses are quality. Its the best uni in the country and the clearly-ins are generous.

I have a friend who called up Burgmann saying that he'd be overseas when offers go out and so he wanted to receive an offer then. He got an offer. I definitely recommend calling up and telling them about your results at the very least.

I'm not sure about one interstate uni and one Victorian uni but if both unis were in Victoria then I could confidently say yes to your question.

just thought i'd bump this topic since i have a few questions about ANU....

i'm a victorian student who applied for bachelor of laws there and i'm currently looking through accommodation over the website. i notice there are lots of suburbs that have places available to rent (including ANU itself which is in the inner north)....just wondering is accommodation at ANU better than accommodation in the city or a place like braddon/dickson? and these colleges that were mentioned earlier in the thread (johns, bruce etc), where exactly do they fit in the whole scheme of things? are these colleges within the uni itself?

All colleges with the exception of Fenner are in ANU if I remember correctly. I think Toad Hall might be outside but that college is strictly for graduate students so it wouldn't matter.

Edit: Actually I'm pretty sure it's just Fenner.

UniLodge is also technically off campus, but it's closer to many lecture theatres than some of the on-campus accommodation. Most of the halls (apart from Burgmann, Johns and UniLodge) are owned by ANU and all apart from the exceptions of UniLodge and Fenner are on campus.

It is very difficult to get accommodation in the city without paying quite a lot for it. Whether or not living away from ANU is better is really up to you. To be honest, I never really thought that on-campus accommodation was for me, but I'm still here after almost 3 years. It can be quite fun and it makes socialising very easy. On the other hand, there are benefits to living on your own or in a share house too.

Yeah Unilodge is a great location too. It's between union court and the city centre, whereas with most of the others it's like: Your hall -> union court -> city centre, which can mean quite a walk to the city (unless u bike). It's further from physics, biol, and psych though

Quick question about cars, recommend or not? I went on the open day and they all said parking was in effect a 'bitch'. How's it go not having a car for job prospects in particular? I'm not really familiar with how good public transport is in Canberra and I'm neither a bicyclist nor skateboarder so would have to buy one if I go. Would save me a hell of a lot of money on rego, petrol etc. so I may consider it anyhow.
Also if you do suggest a car, would I be able to get my Ps in Canberra if its better? I don't know whether the whole 120 hours thing can transfer over and what restrictions are like in comparison.
