There's no straight Law degree; you have to pair it with something. It's always 95 ENTER for Law/- though.
VCE 2006
PhB (Hons) (Sc), ANU, 2007-2010
MPhil, ANU, 2011-2012
PhD, Princeton, 2012-2017
Research Associate, University College London, 2017-2020
Assistant Professor, University of Virginia, 2020-

Feel free to ask me about (advanced) mathematics.

students who weren't quite smart enough to get into Law at USyd
Since when does high ENTER (or UAI...) = smartness?

Just because someone doesn't finish in the top 0.5% of the state, doesn't mean they're any less smart than someone who did.

Well considering most unis bank on the fact that ENTER is proportional to intelligence... anyway, you get what I mean.
I think universities realise that ENTER is mostly based on who studied most, which is why they want the high-scoring students. Intelligence doesn't have much to do with an ENTER score.

.....just as we see examples of enwiabe's volatile side from time to time, so we get glimpses of humphdogg's elitist streak :P

As much as I'd agree with ENTER being a somewhat poor indicator of intelligence, I don't think it indicates who studied most either! :)

Wait, yes there is...

Personally, I believe high ENTERs usually indicate who studied most and who chose the subjects that scale high (some people don't really need to study much for maths (methods and specialist), yet it scales high, which helps get high ENTERs)

I disagree. You can't just put high enters down to two factors. Everyone does there own thing and gets there own enter.
My sisters friend from school tried so hard in VCE and was always studying, but no matter how hard she tried in Specialist maths, the concepts didn't click and she didn't get her desired score in the end.
On the othre hand, if I recall caramel correctly, I think she said she barely worked for physics and chemistry, except for the occasional half an hour before a SAC, I think she got perfect scores in both those subjects, despite not needing to study as hard as others would in those subjects.
Not everyone attributes there high enters to the factors you've stated. And not all of those who may not get the highest enter, didn't get it because they chose high scaling subjects, or because they didn't study hard enough. Everybody is different.

The ENTER indicates the performance of the in question student on their SAC's and exams (and sometimes the GAT). End of story

I knew someone was going to say something like that. Yes, I made a generalisation. There are exceptions to everything. That doesn't make what I said any less of a valid opinion.

And how, exactly, do people perform well in exams/SAC? By magic? No...study.

there's also the effort people put in *before* year 12 as well as various, possibly very early influences to their mental set, which might mean they can get good marks relatively easily

     also, well said costargh :)

No, again you are wrong. You are making assumptions. A LOT of my friends cram for their sac's and get 90+% while others take notes, do questions etc and get 60%.  They aren't a small minority, there are heaps of them in Victoria. Ninwa is an example of blitzing a subject with hardly any study for the exam etc.
They aren't just exceptions to your theory. They are great deal of the students performing VCE and like bubble sunglasses and pyschlaw said there are heaps of other factors which determine ENTER!

It's a valid opinion to you, but it may be meaningless to others. Yes, you have been generalising. (glad that you atleast realised it)

Whatever.... I agree with costa, this topic is pointless (who cares what ENTERs indicate, its a form of assessment just like any other test in your school years) and yeah, its offtopic aswell :D

I probably shouldn't have replied in the first place :o

Why? Forums are for discussion, and everyone can share their opinion...

Why? Because its such a stupid topic... "What do enter scores indicate"... who cares, they get you into uni, thats it...
stop persisting dude, this threads about ANU... not what enter scores show
and the topic is definately not "what AppleThief believes enter scores show, and if you disagree he will be stubborn and persist on rather then leaving you with your opinion" (slightly hippocritical? see above post "everyone can share their opinion")
