what does overall mean, do they average out the three sections?

and also, how many qsts. do you need to get correct to be in the top 90th percentile?

If u did look at the scores u got for each section and then add them up and divide by three, u'll find that's your overall scrore! So basically it's the average out of the three sections!

yes, thats what i thought too. thanks for the replies merlin and shinjitsuzx.

What prepartion courses are out there for UMAT and which ones did you do?

why would you resit the UMAT again?
what happens if you dont get in next year, not saying that you wont, but if you get 99.00 ENTER which is probably what you will get with those ss shown in your sig., you can still get a gaurantee spot in UoM??

I did Medentry and was getting 95-99 percentile for the practice exams for sections 1 and 2 yet I did crap on the UMAT

Yeh, they always pump you up at these places, tell you that you'll do awesome if you go with them. It's all marketing that leads many, many students to have a false sense of security when sitting the actual exam

And people are usually $500-$1000 lighter for their troubles

So glad I didn't have to do the UMAT after reading this thread.

Really sucks for some people...

Yes those UMAT preps will help the students in some form or another however the prices they charge are heavily inflated.

I did MedEntry. Like people have said, yes it is quite a rip, but it DEFINITELY does help, although to a very marginal amount in something as aptitude based as UMAT. But well, if you really want to get into med, then going through the hundred hour grind of practise exams on the system and paying the $500 is something you'll have to do to get that slight advantage you just might need =\

does monash ignore any section or double weight any section or do they just crudely use the overall score to decide our fates?

Overall score I'm quite sure.

Cut-off was 59 last year.

A couple of years ago they used percentiles and the cut-off was around 240ish for an interview. (which seems easier actually)
VCE 2008:
English 49                        Physics 45

Aggregate 208.8
ENTER 99.90

Certainly uom's optometery and dental science puts double weighting on section 1 of the Umat.  :o

From what I've seen, most ppl do condsiderably worse in section 1 as compared to other sections!

I don't know first-hand, but isn't doing 1st year Science, at the same uni, with identical subjects, by far the easiest and most direct option if you don't get into med 1st year? [Didn't see anyone mention this.]

The competition will be rough with the GAMSAT, CV and interview. Also u'd have to be 'dux' of the science cohort.
