I did the second question as well, I talked about Nick, Andy and Phil in sequence but I didn't include much quote there.... Too stressful to remember those quotes.... >,<.. Can I obtain a good result without much quote??

I also did the second question. Fairly confident.

Talked about Nick, Meryl, Andy and Phil as my body paragraphs. Had good quote use. I think I did fairly well :)

Well i think i used about 11 or 12 quotes. When Ross Huggard came and spoke to us, he said for top marks you need to have at least 8. But the question you chose would have been difficult to quote, so im unsure whether it will really affect you that much

well to get a good result 7+ you need at least 8 quotes

I wasnt aware of a magic number of quotes were needed to score 8+ on essays.
i've been averaging 8-9 on trial essays and i hardly manage 5

I don't think so. I mean it depends on the prompt as well. For the first one it was targeted more at the techniques in filming and stuff, so I don't think needing 'at least' 8 quotes is that important. Besides you could throw in 50 quotes and if your whole essay is crap then you'd get a bad mark anyway, as opposed so someone who used 5 or so but had an amazing structured essay blahablahah.

lol that makes me feel a bit better. i did topic 1 and elaborated a lot on film techniques so hopefully that will suffice. it was hard to fit quotes in my essay!

^ But when the prompt is about setting and visual imagery you're not going to use a lot of quotes. It's like using large amounts of quotes when discussing silence, irrelevant.

i did the second question. and i did smiliar to what people at the start of the post did. but as a last paragraph  mentioned the birds how throughout the movie it provided breaks and at the end the last sound heard is the sounds of wings indictaing that they have taken off in new directions. and i also mentioned the train tracks... how look both ways can imply looking at life in a new perspective..

but im like nearly 100% wrong that i couldnt write that.... :(

There is no hard and fast rule for quotes guys.

Last year, a girl got 45 in English without using a single quote, only references to text.

Also, depending on how you relate back to the text. If your mentioning and analyzing you could even obtain a better mark if your just pulling out random quotes just so you reach your 'magic number'

TOP 4
------------------
Russian [2007- 40 raw]
English
IT: Applications
Methods
------------------
Physics
Accounting

i totally forgot about the birds! i was going to shoot myself for that! aarggh >:(
but i didnt really mention the outer setting. more of where they lived and their homes. hope this doesnt affect me

I mentioned the birds! But now im wishing i mentioned the final photo montage at the conclusion of my essay. would have been the icing on top of the cake!
But i LOVED how they asked us no only to mention 'visual imagry' yet SETTING!!! I still cant believe it- it still makes me excited :)

Hmm People at the start of the thread were all agreeing with the question (2). Due to what my friend from uni told me i more than partially disagreeed with the topic. I said that it depends on our perspective and that Andy's quasi-suicidal attempt can be viewed in two ways. That Meryl was always able to look both ways but was only lost in the 7 stages of grief. give examples as to her ability to look both ways. And by the end of the film she overcomes her grief to continue her normal life, thus she has not really found a new angle to view her life.. i cant remember anymore but i felt what i wrote was quite risky having done it in 45mins.. Analysis took ages..
