hey, random question but which exam was harder, this yrs or last yrs?
I did the 07 one.

This years was slightly harder.

and for facilities design and layout i talked about using a product layout lol..i dno if thats right.

I just defined facilities design and layout... and then I talked about how the company (Crispy Cleaners or something?? hhah) could implement a product layout in the China factory so that parts and products are produced in a sequential line, hence increasing productivity and saving time and effort.. and then I said that the factories in Australia could implement a process layout where the washing machines can be moved around the organisation to the different sections so that it can be completed at the highest standard..... blah blah..... then just mentioned how rearranging the layout so as to optimise movement and space will better improve the organisation!!!!! and it goes on and on..

Nope. I don't think that using the POLC was necessary. I think the question was more asking about the role that HR managers play in employee relations. I said how they negotiate with employees so as to better improve relationships and staff morale.. negotiate with trade unions... ensure that contracts (Awards, collective agreements) are being implemented and correctly followed... just basically everything surrounding the employee relationship and improving the organisations culture.. blah blah

the roles question was worth 4 marks. also it said the role that "insert name here" could use as human resource manager. Pretty sure that it was polc.

@kelep: it wasn't. the question was - define employee relations and discuss the role the HRM plays in it. or something like that. didn't specify the use of a role or anything like that.

I dont think it was POLC for employee relations. If someone asks yiou what your role is, you dont say "planning organising leading and controlling" lol

the role of the HR manager is to negotiate conditons and pay for employees and to ensure all parties (employers and employyees) are happy with the outcome.

Yeah, I agre... It was basically just asking what does the HR manager do (what tasks... activities..) in regards to employee relations - not the actual management roles.

If it was talking about roles, it would have specifically said..
'Identify and describe two management roles that ____ would use in order to effectively implement good employee relations'.

I wouldn't worry much about that question. It was ambiguous like you don't know what it is answer.

Definately not POLC  that has nothing to do with that kind of role. I wrote heaps on that just couldn't lose 4 marks lol.

Sweet- that's what I said- but quite a few people from my school (which isn't a stupid school by any means!) said they used POLC.
For the facilities question- I screwed it up a bit- cause I did it last amd it was near the end and I had written too much. I just said how the firm could use a layout- to make the older machines more prominant in the store to ensure the older machines are sold- and then chucked something in about the supply chain.
I couldn't really see (at the time) how the product or process layout would apply to a firm that wasn't actually making the machines- or so I thought :P

THE QUESTION WAS COMMING DIRECTLY FROM THIS DOT POINT (below are notes from A+ notes - doesn't directly mention POLC ):

– the role of human resource managers in employee relations, under a decentralised approach

There are three stages at which the Human Resource Manager might be involved in Employee Relations.

1)   HRMs are often involved as employer representatives in the process of negotiating new agreements
This can involve long discussions with workers and/or their unions, keeping in mind the legal requirements as well as the organisations financial situation.

2)   HRMs are responsible for making sure that the agreements are implemented correctly

3)   HRMs may be required to negotiate in times of industrial unrest and disputes
