Ok thanks, just tossing up between Economics or Managment to go with Accounting major

Anyone if majoring in Management, what's it like in terms of career pathways?
the most common double major sequence is accounting/finance (because of their similiarity), with the second and third being eco/finance and then management and marketing.
most of this is because of the alignment of interest in these combinations. ie; if you like numbers, youll like acc/fin, if you like logical deductions with some legit math, youll like eco/fin, if youre wordy and qualitative, mgmt/marketing

in general though, accounting/economics tends to be the most employable combination, although its an uncommon (though not rare) combination, mostly because they both tend to cater to different people. before I elaborate more on why its the most employable, ill first answer your question about management major jobs.

the most common high achieving pathways for managment majors is management/strategy consulting, and academia. alot of mgmt majors do one of those two. the most common outcome in general however is probably doing brand management for a firm, or entering a management trainee position in some big asx200 company or something, or doing something to do with supply chains or logistics or HR.
the management major however is generally NOT a pre-requisite for these jobs. the pathways that management majors pursue are generally open to all commerce grads (apart from some supply chain, logistical, and most HR jobs). people usually major in management because they really enjoy it, are really good at it (and double major and use it as a wam boost), or because they wanna do management research (which is a HUGE field btw). so if you really enjoy management, then by all means pursue it, because there are definitely some viable and enjoyable pathways for you.

now reverting back to the statement about accounting/economics, these 2 majors are the 2 majors that open up the most doors. barely any jobs specify that ONLY a management major as a requirement, and same goes for finance (lots of jobs say that finance majors can apply, but they usually have the door open for accounting/eco majors too). marketing kinda is exclusive but it's a smaller field than eco and acct and alot of people really start to hate it in 2nd and 3rd year, and we will leave out actuarial for the purpose of this discussion.
however, HEAPS of jobs require you to be an accredited accountant, ie:  have an accounting major. this major also qualifys you for pretty much any grad level finance job, and most of the 'generalist' jobs that management majors go for. this is probably not news to you. eco also opens up heaps of options as many many many jobs require an eco major and only an eco major. lots of research positions, jobs in government departments, in house economists, etc. and they also pretty much qualify you for any of the logical thinking jobs that accounting might not necessarily qualify you for (think consulting and strategy). eco also opens up a couple more doors in the finance world in things like market forecasting etc. that finance grads can do but accounting grads usually dont end up doing
as such the acct/eco combination is probably your best bet, unless you really really like management and you are pretty content with the jobs that accounting offers you (bc the best case scenario outcomes for management majors are quite competitive), in which case acct/mgmt would be great. theyre also pretty complimentary showing you can be qualitative and quantitative.

i did alot of resume screening during my internship, i should make a longer post about deciding between commerce majors somewhere... maybe i'll do it when procrastinating in SWOTVAC LOL

Didn't want to make an entirely new thread to ask this question.
I just applied for a Master of Management (Accounting and Finance) for mid-year intake, and was wondering about the likelihood of me getting in? I have met the entry requirements, done a bachelor of accounting (only got a credit average though, distinction average 1st and 3rd year but messed up 2nd year) and applied for both csp and full fee places.
I would think I'd get in no issue, but after reading around their website and brochures they make it seem like they only have a limited number of places to give out. Would I be right here?

has anyone done accounting reports & analysis?
for the group assignment, do you know which IS and BS items to use in the trend/vertical analysis?
the lecturer just tells us to decide for ourself and says that marks depend on this decision

For the GPA, if I get 4 H1's this semester, then does that mean a 7.0 GPA?

Please do, very interesting read. Also how did you get an internship and where/ in what field did you do it? I thought most places don't offer internships until mid/end of 2nd yr

For many of the big firms(namely the Big 4), applications end around April so a lot of people apply in the first half of 2nd year. There are still a lot of places offering internships later in the year but for the more competitive ones applications end quite early.

Don't quote me on this, someone else may have a better idea but I heard it was mid 80's. It's much more competitive than end of year.  I know low 70s can make it end of the year (i know someone who transferred with a 72).

I think I understand why people say BIOM30002 is harder than BIOM20001 now. That mid-semester test was really difficult for me, although maybe it was just me given how much I disliked B cell diseases. On the bright side, I don't have to do it anymore. Probably not a H1 effort, but I'll keep moving on.

I've never been a fan of immunology (too many types of cells), but I actually found the B cell module the most interesting. What modules are you thinking of answering short answer questions for in the exam?

New York Minute, on Faraday Street (close to uni), is quite good.

Pandemics, dystrophies, cystic fibrosis and neurodegeneration. I'm steering well clear of any immunology. How did you find today's test? :)

Immunology is awesome. You all deserve to be banished to Monash University
