First year student here. Are our breadth subjects important? Does it matter whether we get good marks for them or not?
A breadth subject counts for 12.5 points of your degree which is 300 points. A normal subject also counts for 12.5 points of your degree. They're worth exactly the same.
Whether or not you take them seriously is down to you - firstly, it'll impact your GPA if you do poorly in them. However, that said, depending on who will be looking at your university grades to decide whether or not to accept you into postgraduate science / med / grad program, they might not care about certain marks and would want to make sure you've only done well in certain subjects.
The best option is just to study well to do decently in everything.
