I'll PM you. This way it won't use up so much space in this thread.

People can benefit from it when they use the search function. It's admirable that you're considering that, but others also benefit from public discussion so long as it's constructive :)

either way, np

First year student here. Are our breadth subjects important? Does it matter whether we get good marks for them or not?

A breadth subject counts for 12.5 points of your degree which is 300 points. A normal subject also counts for 12.5 points of your degree. They're worth exactly the same.

Whether or not you take them seriously is down to you - firstly, it'll impact your GPA if you do poorly in them. However, that said, depending on who will be looking at your university grades to decide whether or not to accept you into postgraduate science / med / grad program, they might not care about certain marks and would want to make sure you've only done well in certain subjects.

The best option is just to study well to do decently in everything.

So the 2nd yearr biochem exam is on the 20th of June. I am glad about that!
Does anyone know when we will find out our other exam dates, such as the date for 2nd year anatomy?

Omg I saw the notification about Biochem and I was actually pretty shocked!  It was the one subject I was sure would be earlier on in the exam period due to the large size!  So late!  And completely great that it's the one subject I probably don't have to study as hard for and I get the most time to work on it, sigh.  I'm concerned it might clash with my third year subjects now, since they're smaller and typically get pushed to the end ):

Anyway, May 3 is when the timetable will come out on the portal!  I think that it's up to the coordinator to tell you early if they would like to.  Usually it seems to occur when the coordinator isn't a fan of uni politics ;)

I'm doing commerce. So in theory, your 1st year subjects are as important as your 3rd year subjects?

Most exams (and definitely your exams, although idk what your breadth is) yes!  It is not the best experience in the winter time!  It usually rains, there is no cover so bring an umbrella!  Which you will need to store in a locker when it comes time to go inside, and stand in the general wet enjoying life while you wait for them to let you in.  And then you can freeze for three hours whilst completing the exam, hoping that your seat is under one of the silly heaters :D

depends what you apply for. afaik job applications go by averages, but some post graduate courses use a certain GPA system.

Sorry to bump my previous post, but does anyone know whether any subjects/which subjects get bell curved? I heard arts subjects, but I cant find any information on anything about this.
